Elizabeth Taylor Has Died

Now word that the Westboro Baptist Church plans to picket her funeral for supporting gays
and being an AIDS activist.

@Mark: Maybe Liz isn't in TMZ's target demo...

@Gregg: Big surprise there...

My generation remembers Liz more from her AIDS activism, her "friendship" with Michael Jackson, and her multiple marriages, than for her movies. Most of the archived footage of Liz shown in the news has been alongside other actors who have themselves been deceased for many years, like Yul Brynner.

By the way, I'm 47.

I can see your point, but I still thought they'd mention it. After all as DToTheJ says she was known for her AIDS activism and Harvey Levin is gay. But we'll see tonight.

I'm sorry to be a party-pooper but does Elizabeth Taylor properly
belong on a TV board? Not to take away from her legendary career,
but she didn't make a lot of appearances on the small screen: an
occasional presenter at the Academy Awards, a Mystery Guest a
time or two on "What's My Line?", a commercial or two, and--of course--
her attempt to wreck Luke and Laura's wedding on "General Hospital."
Then there was that disastrous 1957 party, televised by CBS, that Mike
Todd threw to celebrate the first anniversary of "Around The World In
80 Days." There may have been some other appearances I've forgotten
about (I think she did a tour of London on ABC in the '60s), but to me
she'll always be associated with the movies.

All the same, RIP, Ms. Taylor. You're yet another "glamor girl" to go;
remember, we lost Jane Russell the other day.

Mark, I don't recall while growing up that Elizabeth Taylor was often the topic of cheap tabloid trash. But then again, the only junk out there was The National Enquirer.

Gregg, I'm no fan of organized religion, but I am pretty sure that Westboro Baptist Church is not even a Baptist Church and, frankly, I question whether they are even Christians, given that Christians are known by their love. Christ had compassion on people who were sick of various diseases, and He condemned none of them. Were it not for the grace of the Great Physician Who gives the gift of knowledge to some to be physicians we would not be making the strides we have made in the treatment and cure of many devastating diseases.

They sure buried her fast. Not sure if that was to counter the protesters or not. I don't think
I can recall someone dying one day and being burried the next, most seem to at least have
a two day span.

Found my answer: OK, she was Jewish. Get 'em in the ground as fast as possible.

@bpatrick: Another thread was started on the "Classic TV" forum; her legacy is that huge. But with the TMZ angle, this thread can track how it's being covered. And speaking of TMZ...

@Mark: I had no idea about Harvey's persuasion, and despite me saying right in the previous sentence about her "huge" legacy, I doubt you'll find TMZ fans watching her films on a regular basis.

They aired her "Simpsons" episode last night. That freed me to do other stuff because I've seen that one.

Another episode was dedicated to her memory.

I first saw her on "Here's Lucy" where Lucille Ball got her wedding ring stuck on her finger. Richard Burton showed how talented he was in that episode.
