Elle Duncan Moves to the Midday

I

I Know it

Guest
Ryan Cameron announced today that Elle Duncan will be the midday host on V-103 beginning on Monday. Duncan replaces Porsche Foxx who left under strange circumstances in December. Ramona Debreaux had been the fill in Foxx’s absence. Will Duncan succeed in the midday alone?

Wow, i guess Rashan Ali's ratings may go up over at HOT 107.9. Wonder who will Radio One put on in middays on Majic 107.5 will put on middays, Magic Man or Carol Blackman?

There might be a chance Elle may succeed the midday shift alone. I say that because of the track record she's developed through "The Kitchen Sink" on Gospel Music Channel. On that show, I have to say it's an outstanding presentation style with the live performances, interviews, the latest gospel music news, a mini-video countdown called "Top Spins" which highlights the best video in each sub-genre, and then there is the "Hometown Music Makers" segment where a wannabe artist has shot a video of himself or herself, sent the video in, and they pick the video from a list (if any others are sent in). Other rules apply. You can go to http://www.gospelmusicchannel.com/video_submission for more information on "Hometown Music Makers". Of course, Gospel Music Channel is not currently airing new episodes of "The Kitchen Sink" thus they're airing "The Kitchen Sink: Performances" in it's place. As for V-103, they play urban CHR 7 Days a Week with the exception of "Sunday Morning Praise" with Larry Tinsley every Sunday morning 6AM-12PM (12 Noon). I usually listen to that program once a month, and that's the only time you'll ever catch me listening to V-103. I'm aware this isn't about the music or other DJs at V-103. But before I let anyone return back to the subject, I noticed weekdays on the playlist log at http://www.yes.com/#WVEE that at the conclusion of "The Frank & Wanda Morning Show", they do indeed play an urban gospel tune. Has any regular listeners noticed that? Of course, in urban CHR 2 artists have contributed to gospel, Alicia Keys (through a Christmas song called "Little Drummer Girl") & John Legend. There is rumor that Beyonce has contributed through a song on "The Fighting Temptations" soundtrack, but the rumor is unconfirmed. Anthony Hamilton, a one-time duet partner to J. Moss, is also in the rotation. If the strictly gospel (non-mainstream) audience kept stuff like that in mind, this might increase the audience in the midday shift for Elle. I now listen to urban gospel on Monday mornings. Even though this is urban CHR, there is a chance it may still fit in with what I listen to. I'll probably be listening the 1st 2 hours from 10AM-12PM (12 Noon). Carry on. Thank you.

I think there is more to this situation than meets the eye. The next few months will bear that out.

Yes, V plays a gospel selection after Frank's (often nonsensical) "Inspirational Vitamin" speech every day before they go off the air.

I'm sure Rashan is more salty about not getting that job herself, than worrying about her ratings.

Ramona sounded great in the middays. Elle's voice just doesn't sound fit for the middays. In the afternoons with Ryan she tends to sound annoying, but hey thats jus my opinion.

The question is what demo are they going after 18+ or 18-34 or 25-34? V-103 did well with Porche Foxx and Magic man with the 25-34 demo. I think she will fail. They are in a panic. Their ratings are starting to slip due to R&B and satellite radio. Elle is a test to see if a young audience will tune in.

The truth is V-103 hasn’t had to do much over the years because they were always 1 or 2 with WSB, now they are making moves every month. December- Porsche gone, January-Auto scoop gone, February, Elle gone from afternoon drive.

Elle will run off the women in the 25-34 demo to 107.5.

Hello Members,

I've been lurking these boards for awhile and went through the whole "FBI" screening to become a member (lol)

It is great to see the interaction among radio professionals and variety of topics here.

As far as Elle for Middays, I think she should be given a chance, I also predict she might "tone down" a little and really reach out to women. I think Elle is a natural, just some aspects of her on air performance need to be "tamed" but I think she's aware of that. She is beautiful and has been very public due to her association with Ryan's show. She hasn't been in radio "as long as" Ramona but Elle has been "employed" with the company longer. I really don't believe that v's ratings will go down, but we'll have to wait and see.

Ramona seems to have such a great spirit, I hope she hasn't taken this decision "personal" and continues to strive.

As a young single mother myself, there are aspects about both women that I can relate to...too bad I don't have a PPM...lol

;D Hey Maria More, miss ya on HOT 107.9. Hope all is well. I don't have a PPM neither nor do I know anyone with one in ATL. Sucks for the real hip-hop stations, V103 and HOT 107.9.

Hello :)

I am doing well, thanks for the kind words.

You know, based on the recent PPM trends, it seems like there is a pretty significant representation of the urban/18-34 demo...did you see the Beat's December cume? 4th place overall!!! Plus, WAMJ is doing so well with that weak signal, I can't wait to see what happens with 107.5...but then again, is there any promo money to even promote the new station? Notice, there wasn't one billboard that went up when Rickey came to Hot...with advertising revenue decreasing, there's not much left to promote the brands on the station...

You're right about the advertising money. I remember when Radio One Atlanta had billboards and promos on Marta promoting the A-Team Morning Show and Steve Harvey Morning Show. Dag, now is the time for promotions all over again with the station switch going on. I don't know what Radio One Atlanta is going to do.
