Elliot in the Morning on ALT 92.3

I'd just like to hear anyone's thoughts on the show. What do you like about it? What do you hate about it? I'll start with the lack of music!!! This is an alternative music station!!!
 
When 92.3 was K-Rock, they had Howard Stern doing talk radio in the morning, and rock music the rest of the day. The station was basically built around him. Ratings declined after he left.
 
The problem with the music is a shortage of consensus hit songs. Sure, you can focus on the burned to a crisp classics from 30 years ago, and there are a handful of currents from heritage bands that might work. But the music seems to be the thing that's hurting the ratings at these stations.

So the question then becomes is there anything else the station can run (other than music) that will attract a consensus audience for a few hours a day. The Woody Show is an example that has worked for a couple of iHeart stations. Elliot is getting big numbers in DC, and not all of those listeners are alternative fans.
 
Is this the same Elliot that was w/Elvis Duran on the Z-morning zoo? If so, wild to me that what is still considered to be a younger-leaning format is having dudes 50+ do their morning show. Haven't heard but I imagine they probably have limited funds for producing so they're doing what they can with what they have.
 
Elliot does play some bumper music, often letting it play for a minute or two before talking over it. This morning he played John Denver's "Rocky Mountain High"!
 
I actually like the music selection on Alt 92.3 these days when I bother to check in. Seems like they've pulled back on the TikTok/Gen Z pop which really had no place and now it's a nice selection of 90's, 00's while also embracing the newer acts that someone in their late 20's/30's would like. How many of those people actually will tune in to support this station remains to be seen but I wish them the best.

See? That's not alternative. They should've got Matt Pinfield to do the morning show, as he already was a DJ on the old 101.9 WRXP
 
Pinfield and Fram were a trainwreck as was RXP 1.0 horrific station that was. New Rock was much better.
 
I realize my personal tastes are very different from most others, but when I think of great music stations in the NYC area that were unique & interesting, I think of WPIX in the '70s & early '80s, WAXQ's brief foray into hard rock in the mid '90s, and the first version of WRXP that was musically eclectic and somewhat adventurous for city standards, along with personalities who seemed passionate about what they were playing. It's what I as a radio enthusiast look for when it comes to programming, as opposed to what are essentially tightly-formatted jukeboxes with minimal personality (often voicetracked or out of market if they have any at all) run by the major conglomerates of the world ... you can basically call it McRadio.
 
I never thought Matt and Leslie's morning show was as bad as people's said - maybe it didn't live up to some strictly-defined formatic requirements, or to everyone's idea of "personality radio", but I found it entertaining and inviting. I also never agreed with the people who said the RXP jocks came off as snobby - ironically, that seemed like a sign of those commenters' own biases and preconceived notions. They never struck me as anything other than friendly people who just wanted to express their love of music. The music mix itself was a little too unfocused, even when they streamlined the playlist later, but I did appreciate what they were going for.

Alt 92.3 is never going to be my personal ideal Alternative station (and probably shouldn't be), but they are at least getting to be something that's a little less alienating to me as a Xennial/"Geriatric" Millennial who grew up with the format. The morning show doesn't appeal to me much... of course this is the same approach they took with Stern as someone else said, but then again this isn't the '90s and Elliot isn't Howard. Only time and ratings will tell if it works.

If I remember correctly, I think the original RXP wasn't strictly alternative. I think I remember hearing The Beatles sometimes
 
WRXP was a decent sounding station in the final nine or twelve months prior to the FM News disaster. Specifically, I'm referring to the "Rock 101-9 RXP" era.

New Rock 101.9 - which followed the FM News debacle - was a better programmed station musically, despite serving only as a temporary placeholder.

I'd take either of the above in a heartbeat over the present day Fault 92.3.

92.3 isn't bad IMO. The commercial free EITM After Party is pretty nice. I think most of the stuff Scott Lowe plays on Sunday morning Post Modern Alt should be in the regular playlist as well
