I've been out of town for a couple of weeks so if this has already been discussed, please excuse the question....but what happened to Elsa Ramone on Channel 5? I noticed today that Mike Snyder is flying solo now on the 5pm news....and Elsa's bio is no longer on the NBC5i website. Anyone know the scoop? (Not that it bothers me that she's gone....I've thought that she should've been gone LONG before now....but I was just curious)

No, you're thinking of the long-time substitute meteorologist Elisa Robin, who is married to Jeff Eliasoph.

Name confusion...speaking of, Jeff got a great job at KEYE after he got dumped from NBC5.

Jeff HAD a great job at KEYE, which has been going through constant change. I last heard that Jeff is anchoring mornings now at KEYE (Can anyone confirm that?). Even worse, when Ron O. starts as evening anchor, Jeff may be the odd man out as the current evening anchor moves to mornings.

Here's the scoop on Jeff ... he was anchoring at 5 p.m., but was bumped to mornings (alongside former KDFW reporter Kim Miller) after KEYE blew out the old team. Now, KEYE has stolen Ron Oliveira, the main anchor from KVUE. Once his no-compete contract expires in January, he'll be doing all the evening shows with Judy Maggio, another ex-KVUE anchor, which displaces Fred Cantu, yet another ex-KVUE anchor. See a trend here? Cantu will take the morning anchor seat from Eliasoph, who has opted to leave KEYE in January rather than be demoted yet again ... this time to a street reporter. No word on his wife, Elisa Robin, who does weather on their new weekend morning shows. If I was a betting man, I'd say she'll leave as well.

What exactly does <font color=blue>"not having that team spirit"</font> mean? Did she refuse to go to pep rallies? Did she not go to the officially sanctioned church? As far as the channel 5 anchors go, I thought she was one of the best.

One of the best?! If you combine her inability to read news script with anything even close to natural inflection, her completely obvious fake on-air sincerity (total lack of ability to sound or look "genuine"), her inability to adlib anything, and her makeup caked on at least 1/2 inch thick every day, I don't understand how she lasted as long as she did.

As a side note, I wonder if the fact that Meredith Land coming on board and being as good as she is on-air might've put Elsa a bit on the defensive....?

You're entitled to your opinion as well as your speculation. Maybe you felt her inflection was off because she didn't use the lingo of misplaced and superfluous personal pronouns you might used to. For instance, I never once heard her say something like, "It sure is hot, I'm going to get me a nice big lemonade!"

As for her appearance, your comments indicate you're either a child, or someone who doesn't like her for reasons other than her delivery.

In the short time I've visited this board, as well as the Dallas radio board, I'm surprised by the number of petty and personal attacks that do nothing to make for interesting discussions. Everybody seems out for themselves, ready to smear and gossip. I wonder if this is characteristic of the anti-union mentality in Dallas. I haven't seen this attitude on some of the other boards, but since I haven't seen them all, I don't know if the Dallas atmosphere is unique.

First, you're right...I and everyone that posts on these boards are entitled to our opinions and speculation....that's one of the things that these boards and this country allow....freedom of speech.

Second, there's a HUGE difference between "inflection" and choice of words used (or as you so eloquently stated, "the lingo of misplaced and superfluous personal pronouns you might used to"...by the way, why make assumptions about what language "I" might be used to?...what does that have to do with my comment regarding her "inflection"?)

Third, why would my comments regarding Elsa's on-air appearance categorize me as "a child, or someone who doesn't like her for reasons other than her delivery"? Why can you not accept my comment for what it is without assuming I'm a child or that I don't like her for reasons other than her delivery? Again, what do either of these assumptions have to do with my opinion of Elsa's apearance?

Fourth, you speak of petty and personal attacks on this board....but don't your "assuming" comments fall into that category? Is it not a petty and personal attack to assume that I might be more accustomed to "misplaced and superfluous personal pronouns"?...and is it not a personal attack to categorize me as a child or someone who doesn't like her for reasons other than her delivery only because I described what I saw in her appearance?

Bottom line is, there's no need to read between the lines in any of my comments. They are my opinions expressed here on a public online board...none meant as a personal attack....only my opinions. If you can't accept that others may have opinions expressed on this board that differ from yours, maybe you shouldn't be visiting these boards....?

p.s. I'm just curious....is "....personal pronouns you might used to" proper lingo for you? You might want to consider your own "lingo" before speculating on somebody else's.

Well this board may or may not allow freedom of speech. Freedom of speech only means that the government can't tell us what to say or how to say it. You don't have freedom of speech at your place of employment. You don't have the right to slander or libel your company, even though that might be considered freedom of speech by some. And the owners of this board can delete any post for any reason, especially if it's considered libelous, so we're not guaranteed true freedom of speech on this board.

You're right. I'm guilty of doing to you what I accused you of doing and I apologize for that.

> Third, why would my comments regarding Elsa's on-air

It was just my impression in the way you made your comments. I'll accept your comments for what they are, however, to me, they came across as vintictive, rather than constructive. And that's my opinion.

> Fourth, you speak of petty and personal attacks on this

I stand by my comments about personal and petty attacks on this board, as compared to other boards from other cities. I think just a glance at the Dallas radio and TV boards might confirm this. It could be due to the moderators, or because of the nature of the business and the lack of a "we're in this together" mentality that seems to exist in some parts of the country. But once again, you're correct, in that to categorize you for your comments was petty. And for that, I apologize, as I did above.

> Bottom line is, there's no need to read between the lines in

This has nothing to do with accepting or not accepting your opinion. It's simply my comment and observation about what you had to say. It's a discussion, after all, isn't it? I certainly can accept your differing opinion as well as others' and if I decide that I won't be visitng these boards anymore, it won't be because I have a different opinion, or because of your suggestion that I leave.

> p.s. I'm just curious....is "....personal pronouns you
> might used to" proper lingo for you? You might want to

I'm not sure what you mean by this, but not using misplaced or unnecessary personal pronouns is proper lingo for me.

Jimmy Hoffa is dead, man!

And so is AFTRA ...
