ELVIS COMES TO 107.9

This Tuesday January 8th I am going to host an Elvis Birthday Bash starting at 7pm. It will be fun we are going to take request, have some giveaways, hear from some of Elvis's friends and celebrate what would have been his 73rd birthday...If you know an Elvis fan tell them about it.I have a large Elvis library
so I can play pretty much anything except the X-rated stuff.I am sorry for this truly shameless self plug but hey I'm excited and I love Elvis. I hope its OK to do this on this board. If it isn't I'm sorry and you won't be reading this anyway...

107.9 WNCT

Hey Alan, I am glad WNCT is online so I can check this out.
I remember the Elvis show you did back in the 102.3 days and it was great.

Allen, I can tape it for you if you want me to just give me a call. I know you'd do a fantastic job with it since you have an extensive Elvis library and knowledge.

Thanks NC radio geek.I appreciate that. The 102.3 show was fun.Doing that Sunday classics show was so cool..I was lucky to have great listeners. They kept me busy.I made alot of friends through that show and I miss alot of folks I use to talk to.Thanks again for the kind words.
Double J I'm really thankful Jerry & Doug are letting me do the Elvis thing.I'm looking forward to it...

Allen

Hey Coz,
Thanks for not letting me lose my wallet and Hail To The Redskins!!!!!
KOOL is already getting repetitive......DAMN!!!!!
Have a safe trip dude!!!!!

Allen

When I was home from college I used to catch your Sunday night show every week.
That show was special, it was what I think radio should be.
One of the reasons I got XM is because on there Classic Country channel America, they do a week night request show. It reminds me very much of what you did on Sunday nights.
If you thinkk about it, you will figure out who I am.

I know who you are.Call me at WNCT tommorrow morning 9am-3pm 1-800-868-1079.I asked someone about you the other day.I miss talking to you dude..

Allen

How about adding "Elvis Only" to WNCT?? ;D

While the show was on the now defunct WTRG/Raleigh "Elvis Only" was tied for #1 P25-54 (with WRAL) in it's timeslot of Sunday 8-9am.

Former WTRG PD/APD/Creative

*We also ran "Elvis Only" at the #1 oldies (classic hits) station in America, WMJI/Cleveland ( I was there 1994-00). It's been on WMJI since 1990, and #1 in it's slot, 8-9am.

Elvis Only is a great show.Jay knows his stuff.I wish 107.9 would also get Back To the 70's with Charlie Tuna but Magic in Plymouth may have that.I'm not sure..I think they run it on Saturday night....

You know its funny, most radio consultants will tell you have Elvis' time has passed and that most radio listeners don't care about Elvis anymore.I actually heard a part owner of a radio station around here made that statement not too
long ago.I gotta tell you my cell phone has rang alot today with friends telling me they are looking forward to my Elvis show tonight.I understand the radio station has had quite a few calls as well....Could it be those who are supposed
to be in the loop about what the listener likes may be wrong??I'm interested to see what kind of feedback I get from the audience tonight.I'm gonna log every call and try to air alot of them.I may have Jared get their towns and age and just do a bit of my own research while having fun.How about actually talking to your listeners and using that for research???? Just a novel idea from a novice...
ME....

WGTM use to sell out every year an all Elvis day. It was also tied into a local drive in that showed Elvis pics. Jan is a slow sales month and was a great promotion. These "owners" and "consultants" know nothing about small market local radio.

Today's programmers, aged 25-40, and some even older who believe the 'research', claim Elvis to a "polarizing" artist. I say they're full of crap.

As I stated below, "Elvis Only" when on WTRG/Raleigh was #1 P25-54 in it's timeslot.

It's been #1 P25-54 on WMJI/Cleveland almost since it started airing in 1990/91.

Two different markets, south and young vs older "blue collar, rust belt". Same results. Of course you must promote the show.

Nowadays most "oldies"...er Classic Hits stations only play Elvis from '68 to 72; Suspicious Minds, In the Ghetto, Kentucky Rain and Burning Love. That's it. BORING, and more importantly, burnt.

The show went well.I took 102 phone calls in 3 hrs.I extended the show because we had so many request.Lots of calls for stuff you don't hear everyday like Judy,If You Talk In Your Sleep,Ask Me.Got calls from all over NC as far as Raleigh and emails from Connecticut and Dillon SC.I was really happy with the response.Elvis seems to be alive and well with NC radio listeners.I had fun. Thanks to Bruce,Jerry & Doug for allowing me to do it....

Dude I got it all on minidisc for you. I just need to transfer it to CD to send it to you. I heard the last 30 minutes of it and you sounded great!

WGTM did a great job with Elvis Jim,I was an avid listener to the all day Elvis.
It was cool when they did the stuff from the Starlight Drive IN.I've got some of that on tape from 1982-83.On 8-16-83 they ran the 12 Hour show The Elvis Years. That's the most well done syndicated Elvis show I've ever heard. They re ran it on WXYY in Feb 1984.I have parts of it on tape. When the Campbells had WGTM it was a great station.I loved listening to "The Golden Boy" play soul at night.I could get 590 day or night in Farmville. Its sad what WGTM has become.
It sounds horrible.Do you have any old WGTM stuff???

Elvis still gets played on standards radio.

In Eastern N.C. that's 105.9 on the south end, 105.1 on the north end, and a small AM in New Bern.
