Elvis Duran Gets "Phowned" By Spike TV

WNTIRadio said:
Another not in programming older out of demo guy commenting on what HE thinks works in Top 40 radio but doesn't REALLY listen to the show he is commenting on. The show isn't dopey nor is the interaction I hear, anything close to what you describe. You sound like a "get off my lawn" guy who doesn't like the music "these kids today" listen to. The women on the show do not just laugh. They are bright talented women who are really in tune with their demo. You sound like one of those people who bashes Howard but never listens. Turning ANY show on for 10 minutes does not paint an accurate picture. You are a vegetarian commenting on a Steak.

Prior to my current incarnation as a contract engineer, I was a PD. And a PD before that. Ops Manager before that, all the while taking care of the engineer duties. So I'm not exactly out of the programming loop.

By the way, I love Howard. Have listened to him since I was 12, and he was a major inspiration to get into radio in the first place. Still listen on Sirius.

Also, I'm 33, so I don't think I'm an "old fart" who tells "these kids" to get off my lawn. So, there goes your assessment of me right out the window.

I'll stick by that the ZOO, is a tired format. I have tuned in for more than 10 minutes, and I heard it all growing up with Scott Shannon on the Z Morning Zoo. Same show, different host. It is dopey, and I'll stand by it.

And that's the reason you aren't a PD anymore.

Wow. You are one angry old man. he has 3 sidekicks as you call them. Stick to listening to CBS FM and leave the pop culture to the stations that unlike you, don't think Cousin Brucie is still what radio should sound like grandpa.
Elvis is #1 is many big markets for reasons your Geritol won't let you understand. It's just sad how off base you are and the fact that you can't tell the difference between Danielle and Carolina shows me you don't listen or don't know radio.
Sorry, but they are not bringing back WVNJ.

Nor should they. And 31 is not that old last time I checked. Of course it's probably been a couple of decades since Mr "Connect with the demo" was 31 and you're probably old enough to actually remember when WVNJ was on the air, which means you probably also remember when Z was a good station (HINT: 1983-1991 & 1999-2005)

Old is not an age. It's a mindset to always remember the good old days as better than today with everything. 95% f the people on these boards and in demo listeners in most of their markets disagree with you. So, agree to disagree but I still say you are a shill for the dreadful Now FM.

You are clearly a Howard fan. You are from the "If it isn't Howard, it sucks" school that he brainwashes into his listeners. Elvis' show isn't the ZOO anymore and it's far from dopey or sounding anything like Scott's wacky shows of the 80's.

I too am a Howard fan but I'm not a Howard Zombie. His show is really a "Zoo" format as well. Large cast, giggling female as you call it, prank phone calls, sound effects, etc. Hmm....

And I still say you have an interest in Z-100. Nobody could defend the programming on that station unless they worked there and their paycheck made them feel better about it.

And we've yet to hear what's so "dreadful"?

Is it the live midday show that goes up against the syndicated fare on Z-100?

Is it the afternoon and night shows that actually have genuine interaction on multiple platforms with listeners vs JJ and MoBounce (who have stock in index card companies). Both are better suited for diary based markets when a good voice works and you don't need much thought.

Z-100 IS your fathers Top 40 station.

Z 100 owns NY....
Now can't even make the monthly rent payment(female giggles in the background)....
I have no vested interest in either, but having been around long enough, I know the winner when I hear it, and 4 decades later, Z100 remains the CHAMPION!!!!!!...yee har...

I don't know why I'm continuing to let myself get dragged into this, because this conversation is clearly going nowhere...

Now wins middays in my book, I will give them that. But I've knocked Seacrest as Z100's weak spot on multiple occasions, so this really shouldn't be surprising.

Maybe you haven't LISTENED to JJ? His sense of humor is far more cerebral and unique than most jocks in the country. It certainly requires more thought than inane topics like "How to floss" on Chunky's show. As far as the Z100 jocks being better suited for diary markets, let me remind you that diary is recall-based. If anything, some of Now's jocks are likely better suited for that. Someone might remember Chunky rambling for two minutes about flossing, but will they actually sit through the break?

Z-100 IS your fathers Top 40 station.

And your daughter's, grandaughter's, niece's and wife's. Sorry, but the numbers don't lie. Lalumia summed it up wonderfully - Z100 is the champion in New York, period. Could that change in the future? Of course. But not if both stations stay the course.

For the final time, I have no connection whatsoever to CC, CBS or the NYC market. But if you prefer...I am Tom Poleman, Sharon Dastur, Dom Theodore and Rob Wagman. How's that?

Living off its legacy, not its programming. I guess you like Randy on BLI and Delilah too since they do well in the ratings.

The comment on diary vs PPM was based on the fact that JJ wasn't better than the jocks you find in diary based markets. Maybe his humor is on your level, but I've never heard him be anything more than a typical "that was/this is" and "did you catch Ke$ha and Bieber on Seacrest today" company man.

Seacrest has better numbers midday than NOW, yet you like Lisa better. Uh, do the numbers lie or not?

Do you think Delilah is good radio? Or was JJ Kennedy better?

Ratings doesn't always mean good radio is happening. I refer to mt previous posts. If you flipped the talent between Z and NOW the stations the ratings would probably remain the same. It's all based on habits.

I would add CBS has done a piss poor job (as usual) promoting NOW (no TV, limited billboards). The fact they have 3.5 million cume is impressive given these factors.

Then again, I forgot the obvious... most likely the Z-100 lovers here are ex-Krock listeners still bent that CBS threw out the trash twice on that format.

And that's the reason you aren't a PD anymore.

Actually, the reason I'm not PD anymore is that I can make more money working less days than I did before, and not have to deal with jackass air "talent" all the time. I work for myself, and don't have any of the former B.S. that I used to deal with.

Who are you, Radioman? Elvis? You're so defensive over a silly radio show. A Howard Zombie? Nah, if he went off the air tomorrow my life wouldn't change a bit. It's ONLY A RADIO SHOW, not a way of life for me.

Sheesh, who sounds bitter here? Me or the one ranting that everyone else is "old" (even though they're not) and "out of demo" (only slightly). Seems your perception is off about quite a few of us here.

That's the last I'm going to mention this, because it's not worth my further time to get into a pissing match on the internet over a goofy radio show.

Ha. You're funny. I write the way I do as a radio fan that is shocked at your off base comments. As I said, I am a Howard fan, even an O and A fan, but I can appreciate good radio by format. That's all

Not at all, but you clearly work for Now FM. Sorry. In a PPM world, Chunky's painfully long breaks and male callers aren't what keep female listeners engaged. He's a rock jock on a pop station. As for Middays. Lisa could never make it on to Z100 no matter how many times she tried. Ryan is still a pop culture icon and NOBODY cares where the show comes from apparently. Women don't listen to the radio like radio message board guys do. Defend the programming? I defended the morning show. All Now FM has is an illiterate mush mouth who talks about his past her prime wife too much for a pop audience. I guess Elvis has 35 cities hypnotized by the Z100 brand they have never heard of.

I have no affiliation with CBS Radio but I do work in radio, so I know I have a better understanding of this.

Chunky's callers, if I were to guess, are 80-20 women. I rarely hear a male caller.

Finally we agree. This is why Z still does well despite the weak talent/imaging. AgaIn, you can have bad radio with good ratings on heritage stations.

I'm not a Cannon fan, but as for Elvis, he's on mostly heritage CHR's like WKCI and WIOQ. It's a shame about WIOQ because Booker is much better than Elvis... a move made to cut costs...

Too bad Elvis isn't like this anymore... or Z

Back then he was relatable, fun and actually was interesting...
