Elvis Duran Headed to 105.7 The Groove

Taylorengineer said "Showbiz just can't be boiled down to a formula......it ain't math - it's emotion." That is whats wrong with the Industry. Imus attracted the "Wall Street" type of investers in the 80's & 90's and they have dehumanize and about killed the business. These guys are only interested in this quarter's numbers. Had these guys ran the business in the 1960's there would be no comercial FM. I personally know several operator's who lost money running a FM for years with the hope of someday reaping the rewards. Many did. There was a time in the mid to late 1960's when if you wanted an AM it would help if you would "take" a FM too. I use to work at a station that "traded" a 100KW fm for a 3 KW to save on the power bill! I see the same kind of thinking at all the clusters. It's not how can we do better but how can we do it cheaper. With streaming and better cell networks thier will be no need for over half of the stations. Just stream a New York station.

So... Radioman... I decided to listen to Elvis again thinking that maybe my opinion was unjustified... Nope.. I was right. Tuned in at 9am and Elvis mentioned someone said his voice sounded like a movie trailer VoiceOver guy..(setup for... Are you ready?) movie trailer parody on Avatar called Avafart! Complete with farting sounds and his whole team gigling in the backround. Yeah Radioman... Quality parodies. I won't be listening.

OMG Avafart how freaking hysterical. I can see his cronies laugh their butts off. That is good radio. Reminds of that great morning show "The Morning Mess" with all of their clapping. Now I can;t wait for them to get here. Their target audience in Atlanta loves fart jokes.

Watch out little Bertie. Elvis is coming to get you.

Elvis Duran definitely hosts one of the best morning shows on the planet.
Z-100 New York would put Q-100 to shame any day of the week musically, but Z's ratings success also stems largely from its phenomenal morning show.

Reminds me of that Howard Stern guy who never quite got a break in Atlanta...

I never said I liked Stern

Ughhhh Elvis should only be on Z100, it was more fun as the Z Morning Zoo.
He's turning into the Delilah of CHR stations.

I heard it too. First off, it wasn't a parody. He riffed that live after a text came in saying his voice sounded like a movie trailer guy. He took the #1 and spoofed it. Great stuff. 30 seconds in a 4 hour show. Yeah, fair sampling. I guess you don't hear the relationship topics that go far beyond the male/ female thing or the compassion they show when a soldiers mom calls, or how great they are at interviewing their major name talent. I guess their other cities just like farts and that's all they get. Must be easy. Perhaps we should all get shows!

You come off like a guy who hates Rap or Heavy Metal so they say it all sounds the same because you don't have an ear for it. Just because YOU don't like a format is only an indication that YOU don't like the format. Clearly, you are not Elvis' audience. You make it sound like you are a big CHR morning show fan who can name better chr morning shows but you offer none and clearly are more the NPR, male talk radio, oldies type.
I think the posts after yours are more on target with their opinions.

Call me repetitive (from previous posts). I MUST be the only one, here. BUT, does ELVIS DURAN of Z100 know that he'll being airing on a fuzzy, mono FM signal in the majority of the Atlanta market! ???

Do you think I'm some old fart Radioman? Ha... I did mornings/middays/Pmd at rock stations for 10 years. Im in my 30's and now I'm Dj'ing nightclubs in NYC. I play AND like all music. And my Footy connection comes from being a family friend from when I was a kid growing up in Miami. So... you're idea of me is ALL wrong. You are right that I like male oriented, edgy, topical, FUNNY radio shows... agreed CHR morning shows aren't my thing but I have no problem giving props. I tuned into Elvis and thought the bit was stupid so I punched out. A total PPM moment. Good luck to him. I don't care if he succeeds in Atlanta or not. Bottom line is I don't care for his show. But I'm certainly NOT NPR or Oldies radio listening guy. Lol... Good luck ELVIS!

Hey, beats the blowtorch that Michael Smerconish is transmitting over. And he probably doesn't know (or is aware, but refuses to accept) the signal strength of his station, either!

Not sure if anyone else remembers this or not, but Elvis Duran actually worked in the Atlanta market for a short time years ago. He did nights at WZGC during their short lived rhythmic CHR period in the late 80s as "Hot Z93". It would have been in about 88 or 89 that Elvis was there.

One could argue that it kind of makes sense since Groove's audience is basically 30 to 40 something females (who would have been teenage girls listening to Elvis at night in Z93 in '88 or so). Also since it was a rhythmic CHR at that time, Z93 played many of the rhythmic gold titles that now make up Groove's library. Sure it's a stretch, but there is a connection.

Footy!!! Love Athletes Foot. And has anyone heard Elvis' morning show? I can't quite understand why it's in so many markets. Hacky parodies and giggle boxes for his jokes... Ugh... I'd rather hear Tripp in morning drive.

You love Footy? That explains why you are so critical of the Elvis Show. It's way tooo young for you. Seriously, based on your description, you haven't really listened to it. They don't use giggle boxes and rarely play parodies. When they do, they are top notch and timely. Mostly, the show is pop culture, demo based and features great talk topics and fun content. Not sure what show YOU are describing but you clearly are not the target demo. They seem to be doing well in many big cities and very different markets Them coming to Atlanta could be a very god thing for their target audience. From the numbers, they crushed the numbers your boy Footy was getting in Miami.

What every happened to this poster? So far Elvis' show has done NOTHING!
