Embracing the Grammys

Ok so the Latin Grammys are this thursday and we all know that Univision is the official network for this event to be held here in Houston. My question is do you guys think its smart of other stations like Mega and Xo who are not Univision radio stations to also promote the event? example talk about it,give away tickets and make it seem like they are a part of it? Does that help them in any way or will it actualy back fire and hurt them?

Congrats on the most random post ever. Sure, if the Latin Grammy's are a big deal - talk about it. Live the lifestyle of your listeners.

Give away tickets, I don't understand. You said they're on Thursday, I don't see anyone making such short notice plans.

The worst that can happen is a big KAMA logo on the screen.

why not? BRAVO if ANY radio station that plays these artists - whether Univision or NOT - promotes it!! It's a win-win-win - for the radio station, it brings more ratings and publicity; for the fans, it makes 'em feel as if THEIR radio station (and this goes for ANY city and ANY station...) is in sync with what THEY'RE in sync with; and for the advertisers - it brings in more moola, baby!! :)

From a marketing standpoint, I agree with Andrea - I've done similar things in the past - we called it guerilla radio - take credit for something that another radio station has done...

as Elvis would say - "thank you, thank you very much.." :)

Funny thing - the way you said it - reminds me of the underlying plot line of the 1978 movie "FM", where you had one radio station basically doing "guerrilla radio" and putting on a concert originally supposed to be done by ANOTHER station...

but even though i thought the WAY you said it was interesting - i thought your statement missed the point on one WHOLE thing - ANY artist on the Latin Grammys, ESPECIALLY if it's a multi-format artist (in the old days, i would have said somebody like Ricky Martin or Gloria Estefan for examples) - well, it's just, i would think, a GREAT thing when you got like the Spanish stations supporting it, the Top 40 stations supporting it, the AC stations (in some cases - Estefan, for one), the rap stations (Daddy Yankee?) - it's just MORE and BETTER for EVERYBODY!! :):):)
