Emergency Alert System and the Upcoming Dial Switch

With WBMX headed to 104.1 and the state's primary EAS facility at WBMX 98.5, does the facility stay with the calls or the dial position?

In essence, does WBZ-FM become the new state EAS primary or does it remain at WBMX-FM and head to 104.1?

I know ours are set to 98.5 as the primary and 1030 as the secondary.

I mentioned to the GM we needed to change the forms we use to log them in, and report them in the public inspection file, I am just assuming it is going to stay on 98.5, because it isn't the format that counts it is the signal.

But then again 98.5 has already flipped calls to WBZ FM, I'll have to call the station in the AM and see what the printout says. They usually do the weekly tests Sunday morning around 3 AM IIRC.

btw the state website has not been changed to reflect the new calls on 98.5. As of this moment, there is no WBMX in this market, and by mid week when WBMX is moved back from where CBS parked it, then there is going to be confusion without the frequency listed.

Activation of EAS within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts may be made at the request of the Governor, Director of the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency, Massachusetts State Police or the National Weather Service. Such request shall be made directly to the State Primary, the Alternate State Primary or Local Primary Stations of the affected operational areas.

All local broadcast and cable systems which have voluntarily joined the EAS program monitor the State Primary, State Alternate Facilities and National(NOAA) Radio.

State Primary Facility: WBMX Radio, Boston
State Alternate Facility – WBZ Radio, Boston

AIUI, the EAS designation stays with the facility, not the call letters.

Thanks. I realize that 98.5 will be housed at Birmingham Parkway, but would the EAS status preclude WBZ-FM and WBZ-AM from sharing the same broadcast facility?

If that was a concern, assuming the statewide primary and secondary housed in the same facility, they could set up the air chain so the EAS encoder is located at the transmitter sites which are at two different locations.

POTS and a Comrex Blue Box... basic low tech and as reliable as it gets
