EMF Buys Indiana FM

EDUCATIONAL MEDIA FOUNDATION is buying noncommercial affiliate WIKL/GREENCASTLE, IN from BILL SHIRK's HOOSIER BROADCASTING CORPORATION for $2 million ($1.5 million in a note). WIKL has been carrying EMF's K-LOVE Contemporary Christian format since FEBRUARY 26, 2004. JOHN PIERCE of JOHN PIERCE AND CO. served as broker for EMF.

WHAT!!!

$2 mil for a non-comm with signal mostly over cornfields?

On a good day, they make it to downtown Indianapolis. I can see $4mil for KOKF, but WIKL is a different beast entirely.

If the station were to remain the way it is, you'd have a point. Stay tuned.

A move-in would make a lot of sense...especially considering the nearest co-channel to Indy is in Muncie. 10,000 watts at +/-200 feet would probably protect WWDS pretty well.

I can't imagine that there is much move in potential, as Shirk would have figured that out when he put them on the air. His whole goal was to put a signal over the metro. Both WFYI and WBDG are second channel adjacent problems.

As a reference, EMF paid $800K (IIRC; it could have been closer to $1M) for a station in Stanford, Kentucky that provided spotty coverage to Lexington, but does cover Danville and Nicholasville as well as numerous other small cities in the area.

Moving the XMTR closer to Indy will help. EMF also puts up translators to cover an entire market in many areas.

Are you working for EMF now Frenchman? If so, congratulations.

Nope, I'm not working for them. And the other commercial CCM station in town doesn't respond to my inquiries even though I was in CCM radio over 20 years. If the Brownsburg station gets sold to a group that's interested in making it a CCM station, I hope they'll hire me. I'd love to be in it again.
