Last year they purchased 98.9 in the Quad-Cities market. I was curious if anyone knew how much they paid for that signal? Also, since EMF is trying to expand, have they ever sold off one of their signals due to low sponsorship? I mean, if a station does not have enough money being donated to it from an area, why keep it on, only to pump money into an area that obviously does not support it? I realize that oftentimes the bigger markets spend enough money to keep the other signals in smaller markets on, but it makes no sense to me to keep it up and running if they are not making enough to keep it up and running. Thoughts please?
 
What happened to the station they dumped? Did they sell it, change formats? Is it still non-comm?
 
they sold an AM in memphis. i personally wish they would buy another one here and make it air 1. yea i know same songs over and over again. but at least it would be more rockin than klove. plus there is no more christian rock on xm or sirius.
 
EMF sold KSUD AM 730 in West Memphis, AR to Simmons Media and it became ESPN Radio. This was because they bought it and WPLX AM 1170 in Memphis in order to get KSUD FM 94.7, although the AM stations weren't really needed. I'm sure that they would sell WPLX as well if the right buyer could be found. They're doing technical work to move the station to 1180 and they might be more likely to sell it then.

Hopefully EMF will be adding Air 1 in the near future in West TN becasue they are in the process of buying WKNQ FM 90.7 in Dyersburg and this will give them enough stations that something will hopefully become Air 1.

P.S. Man I'm loving this Direct TV once again. They are far better than Dish Network and offer a better variety of Gospel based programming and music channels.
 
I'm not sure what happened to the Pittsburgh station, because I don't know what frequency EMF had there. I heard it referenced during a pledge drive back in '02 (I was actually working a summer job in the K-Love city of Oxford, Mississippi), so this has been a while ago.
 
It has to be hard for them to keep all of these stations running, even with donations and such. I wonder how they are doing financially? I know they are not in the business to make money really, but I can't see them running a station just to have it. I also wonder how well 98.9 did in the ratings, since they are non-comm they don't get results published. Also, how they are doing with their drive from people in the QC area.

I was curious when EMF plans to take over WRXH in Rochester, Indiana from AFR, and when they plan to put WWMU and its translator on air. The translator has to be on air at 102.9 by 3/22/07, so I would assume WWMU 88.3 Muncie will have to hurry up and get on air itself.

My main curiosity: Will EMF put the Air1 format on these three stations, or their larger K-Love network?

I really hope for Air1, because I think in both areas, K-Love would face quite a bit of competition. At least Air1 would fill a niche.
 
EMF just applied to rebroadcast the moody station in Anderson on the Muncie translator since WWMU will not be on yet. Once WWMU comes on I do not see why the translator would needed anyway.

I agree about Air1 being much better than K-Love. But chances are it will be K-Love. The main competition in Muncie is moody and WQME.

Sorry, Jonathan. Every time EMF is new to a market, they launch K-Love frist, regardless of what competition exists. K-Love is the money maker, Air1 is not.
 
It is not true EMF puts K-Love in every market first. Most of the time they do yes. But there are a few markets where Air1 is that K-Love is not. Or Air1 came on first and still has the best signal. Usually those are markets with a strong christian AC already. But I can list several. If no comment then air1 is the only one in that market and no K-Love

St George, UT (KAER) Air1 has the full power station and K-Love the translator.

Abilene, TX (KAGT).

Chattanooga, TN has a air1 translator with no K-Love. It used be K-Love.

Tulsa, OK (KWRI).
Stillwater, OK
Enid, OK (KKRD)

Jefferson, OH (WCVJ)
Hinckley, OH.
These are to reach the Cleveland area and K-Love in not in Clevelend.

Fort Smith, AR (KKRI) Yes K-Love is there now but Air1 came on first and air1 got the best signal in Fort Smith.

Searcy, AR (KBGR) for air1 to reach Little Rock but K-Love is not in Searcy.

Ridgecrest, CA (KGBM) K-Love has a translator there that came on after air1.

The energy being exerted on listeners during fund drives is increasingly used car. This is simply remarkable.

I hear the announcers tell listeners their station may not be on the air if they don't raise enough money.

One listener called when the local K love affiliate was off. She claimed she was so upset because she upped her monthly pledge and asked if they were not coming back. She related from a listener viewpoint that she believed they were broke and wanted to keep them on.

It old her they had the publicly reported 40 million dollar cash reserve and they would be back.

They had transmitter problems and came back on.

After the regular pledge drive they ran announcements and continued the 'recycle" programming asking for new pledges and reminding listeners to send cash for an extra two months.

What they do works. It's okay to ask for support.

Here is my concern :

When do you tell listeners you have a 40 million dollar cash reserve? Apparently not at all...

40million? come on. i dont believe that. and do you know how much money it takes to run 100 full power radio stations monthly? just the light bill adds up fast! i dont know how much money it takes to run a transmitter but i am pretty sure it aint cheap!
 
The talk of shutting down stations has been toned back in recent pledge drives. They usually talk about keeping your station fully funded now, and it's definitely not as bad as how PBS stations ask for donations by putting on programs that they wouldn't carry at other times and then beg for money to keep "Great programming like (the special on at the time) on the air" and then go back to the regular programming after the fund drive is over.

Also, I think a $40 million reserve may not be out of line considering the size of their network.
