EMF sells Dayton Translator.

From All Access:

"EDUCATIONAL MEDIA FOUNDATION is selling FM translator W254BA/RIVERSIDE, OH to BRADLEE J. BEER for $32.500. The station will rebroadcast low-power FM WSWO-LP/HUBER HEIGHTS, OH."

Up the road from Dayton EMF also sells:

From All Access: "FM translator W251BC/SIDNEY, OH to MUZZY BROADCASTING, LLC, which will use the translator to simulcast Oldies WPTW-A/PIQUA, OH, for $42,500."

I didn't know that a licensee of an LP FM could own a translator.
WHUM-LP Columbus,IN owns a translator in Seymour. Good to see realistic translator prices can still happen in this part of the world.

I wonder what the frequency for that WSWO translator is. I hope I can get that better than 101.5

98.7 is the translator that will eventually relay WSWO-LP instead of EMF... They have an app filed to move the translator closer to Huber Heights. Also note the "owner" of the translator in question who is purchasing it from EMF is not the same license of the WSWO-LPFM. So while they may have a "relationship" not the same person (group) is listed on the license.

When EMF bought Cedarville's network I had always suspected they would eventually divest some of their translators in the Dayton area.. so this all makes sense.

The reason you don't get WSWO on 101.5 is that current translator for WSWO-LP moved to 101.1 several years ago to get out of the way of the Click 101.5 move-in.

LPFM stations have to be licensed to non-profit entities and can't be licensed to an individual. In this case, the translator owner does not sit on the board of the entity that operates WSWO, so there's no "attributable interest" here in the eyes of the FCC.

However, changes to the rules regarding LPFM and translator cross-ownership may be coming soon. The FCC sought comment in their last LPFM report and order about this, so they may be looking at permitting limited cross-ownership.

Oh, I meant 101.1, I still have trouble getting reception of that frequency, hope this new translator helps

I hear WHUM wants to expand and squire some licenses in Ohio. Perhaps 1340 in Springfield, 1410 in Dayton, and 1360 in Cincinnati would do the job.

IS WHUM-LP also looking at buying 1070 AM in Indy?

WCRS-LP radio in Columbus, Ohio also has a translator at 98.3 on the west side of Columbus.

Interesting. They're both called Columbus Community Radio. Both have translators on 98.3. And the call letters are so similar on the repeaters. The one in Ohio is W252AY. The call sign in Indiana is W252BY.

I think AM frequencies in medium and large markets is the way for community radio to expand. After all, the older audience would still be willing to use AM. They just might be excited to find someone still played music and does something different.

Or, we can just let AM radio die.

I Cant See Emmis wanting to Sell 1070am because then where would they move 1070 the Fan to. with the fact that Emmis has the Colts/Pacers/Fever/Butler Basketball/IU Sports. they need to have at least 3 stations to be available in case of a Colts/Paces/IU, Colts/Butler/IU, Colts/Pacers/Butler games that air at the same time. and i cant really see them doing games on B105.7 In indianapolis as that is their Female based format station. So unless Emmis would manage go get a 4th FM in Indianapolis and i dont see any available. i cant see anywhere emmis would Sale 1070

It'll be a few months before the FCC approves the sale and relocation of 98.7. Then, when 98.7 becomes the repeater for Ultimate Oldies Radio, 101.1 may become available for lease as either an FM-HD fill-in or an AM repeater.

That's arguably the most bizarre thing I've ever read here.

That was posted on another board about WHUM-LP looking into purchasing 1070. I misread it.

Actually, someone would like them "To donate 1070 for a WHUM relay" I agree hoping for a donation of the 1070 AM signal dose sound pretty bizarre. That doesn't mean 1070 can't be purchased for $3-4 million dollars by WLUM-LP if WLUM-LP can come up with the money someday. See the post I was referring to:

You're thinking a 100 watt LP in an unrated city can cough up $3-4 mil for a $50,000 watt AM in a top 50 market... to use as a translator?

Well ya never know, huh? It might happen. ::)

Citadel did buy ABC radio so if you can find some one (of questionable mental capacity) to lend or donate the funds anything can happen.

According to the K-Love website K-Love is on full power stations WKCD 90.3 and WOKL 96.9 in Dayton. I would think that 96.9 becomes Air1 soon to replace them being on the 98.7 translator.

EMF also owns half-time WQRP 89.5 but does not list it on any of their station lists. I guess it's also still K-Love. But it is probably for sale.

WQRP was at one point in the legal ID for 96.9 but this was before 90.3 became WKCD .. I am guessing that EMF may change 96.9 to Air1.. I could see it happening though as it appears EMF has been granted a license to cover on the new site for 90.3 which is in Dayton. http://www.radio-locator.com/pats/WKCD_FM_LU.gif
