Emmis amends austin portion of three market signal modification plan

https://radioinsight.com/headlines/...antonio-move-in-with-help-from-bob-in-austin/

Proposed Changes for 103.5 Bob-FM

Emmis has filed a modification to its application to relocate “103.5 Bob-FM” KBPA San Marcos to Austin to correct its coordinates.

KBPA seeks to operate with 46kW/326.2m from the West Lake Hills tower utilized by Emmis’ Rock 93.7 KLBJ-FM. The modifications of KXAI and KMJR are not affected by the amendment.

Original Report 2/7: Educational Media Foundation’s $432,000 December purchase of Regional Mexican “La Caliente 98.3” KMJR Odem TX from Tejas Broadcasting could lead to the addition of a new FM signal for San Antonio with the assistance of Emmis Communications following a series of contingent applications filed yesterday.

To make the move possible Emmis will downgrade Variety Hits “103.5 Bob-FM” KBPA San Marcos from a Class C0 to a Cl with 48kW/326.2m from a tower just east of downtown Austin giving the station a better signal in the northern suburbs of Georgetown, Round Rock, and Taylor. A new Austin city of license will accompany that move.

What will happen to 103.7 K279AB in San Antonio? They haven't filed a modification yet to do anything to adjust to the new station that's about to take over it's frequency. Hopefully KAHL's 103.7 signal doesn't just get wiped out. I don't know if Grandma will like that too much.

Translators are secondary and do not have to be protected by non-secondary classes of stations. As a translator there is no point in doing a frequency search and filing to move until the FCC approves the moves for all these full power stations.

Wonder if Emmis will still want to build the CP for KROX on the current KBPA tower. With KBPA adding northern coverage while sacrificing areas to the south, it would seem strange Emmis would do the opposite with KROX...the proposed new signal for 101.5 has the same reach to the north as the current site.

I suppose if they do move KROX once KBPA goes to the western hills site, the current KBPA transmitter could be retuned to 101.5 and use the existing antenna. This would require a modification to the CP to keep it within the Class C1 limits (higher antenna but lower power) but would involve minimal cost.

101.5 Needs This As KROX Could Cover More Of Central Texas I Like 101.5 Maybe A Format Swap Could Happen That Would Be Nice
