Emmis buys in TH

Very much an expected and long rumored move. Does Emmis fire back at Midwest for launching Q102.7? Highly doubt they would throw on a CHR, but some type of AC/Hot AC/ Adult Hits format is badly needed.

Does anyone know how WBOW-FM did in the Spring '12 book? If the numbers did improve, it seems like that Adult format would be big upgrade to the 1 share ESPN/Crock typically pulled, and would cut into the listeners WMGI probably gained with the loss of WBOW . Toss on Bob & Sheri in the morning, maybe grab some of the former WBOW jocks likes Jules, Kyle, or Doc to fill out the rest of the day.

I bet Emmis will use 1130 AM to simulcast 1070 the fan out of Indy.

Would love to know the final sale price, if it is anything more than 400k, Emmis made a big mistake passing on 102.7 and 1300 and settling for the rimshots.

Gonna have to improve the singnal into Terre Haute on WSDM to make much impact. I believe they had the approval to move the tower 8 miles closer to Vigo Co. at one time.
Would like to hear Kyle West again, Doc I think is with WAXI. 8)

Great to hear Doc staying with WAXI.

Big city operator Emmis missed the boat by letting 102.7 get away from them! But Emmis has serious money problems and now owns two class A's while Midest now owns 3- 50 kw Calass B fms. Dumb Emmis.

"Poor Dumb Emmis" If only they owned a station in Terre Haute that had higher
ratings than all the other stations in the market combined. Geez, what a bunch of dummies.

WTHI had a 23 share BEFORE Emmis bought it. FACT Emmis has sold 4 big stations in top markets to keep the Emmis ship from sinking. 2 in Chicago, One in New Your, and now one in LA. Now the are buying a 5400 watt daytimer and a Brazil Class A fM in terre Haute. Clearly they missed the boat with 102.7! Poor dumb Emmis..

Certainly don't think Emmis is "dumb", but they may have made a mistake not taking the 50kw stick when they had the chance. A million bucks certainly isn't chump change, but instead of the two weak Brazil signals Emmis could of got the two Terre Haute signals. Not my money and maybe Emmis financially couldn't do that, but certainly that would of been the better value deal in my mind.

Midwest doesn't get the 102.7 signal, then Emmis still has absolutely no competition for Hi-99. Will Q 102.7 ever be competition for Hi-99? I think it will take a hell of a lot more than Party Marty and a bunch of voicetrack jocks beamed in from Green Bay to make any kind of dent into Hi-99's huge numbers.

Given Emmis' existing market domination, it's entirely possible that buying 102.7 might have given it enough of a chunk of the TH market revenue to get the Justice Department interested.

No Scott. 102.7 had very low ratings and very poor revenue. Seller paid almost 3 million for 102.7 and sold it for a fraction of that.

True, but the seller's mismanagement had a lot to do with the loss of value there as well as the cratering of radio revenue.

Even Hi-99 is worth less than it was when 102.7 was bought for $3M.

I have to agree, thought, Emmis purchase here isn't likely to be impactful on the market.

Emmis' really boneheaded move was selling TV and doubling down on radio.

Adult Hits with Kyle and Jules could definitely make it interesting. Honestly, what are the options for a company that has country and classic rock? I bet it's rap...

As one who lost his shirt on 10,000 shares of Emmis stock (I sold it for $1.05--it peaked at $62), I recall the price started to nosedive the day they stepped into TV. While I can't say whether the TV selloff was good or bad at the time it happened, I can sure tell you it was a disaster going in.

I'm guessing you'll hear ESPN on 92.7 FM for a month or two after Sept 1st. What ever they switch to I'm guessing their will be no jocks. And if they voice track it you'll probably hear some Indy vocies. Would love to hear something simular to 105.7 in Indy. AM 1130, guessing they'll shut it off or donate it to someone. Paul Ford may want it.

Well, 92.7 is now "Bob FM" whatever that is supposed to be. ESPN is still on 500-watt 1130AM. Emmis does have an option to move the FM tower much closer to Terre Haute. If they can move the AM there as well, it may work out well.

Anyone remember Buffalo Bob (Bill? been awhile)?

Buffalo Bill went on to be known as Jammin John Trout on WZPL. John is a TV meteorologist on WBOC TV 16 on the east coast.
