Emmis flips Austin translator to all comedy

Did they strengthen 93.3, or have they just given up on South Austin? Comedy doesn't sound like a big moneymaker, but they are pretty creative over at Emmis. Look at all the locally done HD channels they have ...

That would be great if HD signal was worthy.

Whatever Jras, either complain about KVET or HD signals.

Anyhow - Emmis has got a huge footprint in Austin now. 7 'traditional' AM/FM stations and 3 HD2/Streaming stations. I don't know about the new Comedy station, but aren't all the others locally programmed?

Complain? That is a simple fact. If they would go full HD coverage I believe it may have a chance, but the way signal coverage works now, I have my HD radio disabled to analog only.

Do you all remember a couple years ago, when Hot 93.3 abandoned their 99.7 simulcast shortly before the 93.3 signal flipped?

Now the 102.7 simulcast is gone, do you think something will happen to 93.3 KGSR? I think I detect a pattern.

Just an thought...

It seems to me that 93.3 is heading towards a 590 simulcast.

As for the KGSR programming, maybe Emmis moves it to 99.7 or eventually sells off the intellectual property to non-commercial entity.

Speaking of KLBJ-AM, I caught a faux paus overnight. Coming out of the 2:00am network news there was some dead air followed by the 2:30 local news running at 2:05. I know it was the 2:30 news because the time check was the first thing out of the anchor's mouth. I guess they're no longer promoting they're Austin's only "live, local 24/7 newsroom."

Sounds like another stunt to me! remember Mega on 102.7? Less than 1 year ago.

My guess is they will flip KGSR to Dance, CHR, Country, or probally AC to rival KAMX, and KKMJ. I would place my bet on some form of CHR to go after KHFI. Both Houston and San Antonio have 2 CHR's, the latter more.

Why not go after someone in the top 5?

I would love to have an all 70s radio station again. But that might not happen.

All Comedy Station will fill the void?

How many commercial talk radio stations are they on the FM dial in Austin?

1. 92.5 Deportes ESPN Spanish Sports Talk
2. 98.5 The Word 99.3 Religious Talk
3. 99.7 KLBJ-AM translator
4. 103.1 KVET-AM Sports Talk
5. 104.9 KTXX Sports Talk
and
6. 102.7 K27AX All Comedy Talk

What people can't afford to watch television?

Give it 6 weeks and it will fail.

If I wanted comedy I would watch Sinbad reruns.

EMMIS should have brought back MEGA hd2 on 102.7 they would get a bigger bang for their buck,
now that's funny ;D

Last I heard, 93.3 KGSR was making money. Not only does it have a fair share of its own advertisers, but Emmis was also forcing advertisers who wanted KLBJ-FM or Bob to buy KGSR, too. I can't imagine Emmis will pull the plug on KGSR, but I suppose stranger things have happened.

I really saw no use to 102.7, even in South Austin, I was able to pull in 93.3 a lot better than 102.7, 102.7 would always cut out at lot, or JackFM from SA would be coming in.

Just sampling the format, it doesn't sound too different in presentation from Sirius-XM's mainstream comedy offerings. But satellite offers more flavors including blue collar and urban humor channels.

yes xm offers more channel formats... Why would i pay something that i can get for free? besides xm sound quality is horrible.
