Emmis might be leasing again Soon? to News talk

KXOS FM Might be flipping soon As Leasing comes to an end soon New format are coming to New york And chicago for news/talk Also rumor that LA Get one too!

Http://fmnews939.com Has been registed For LA Market Special thanks to Radioinsight For info

Will a NewsTalk in LA get the number of ears to be viable in the market against the AM Powerhouses KFI and KNX? And the other smaller players like KABC and the rest? mmmmm?

As to KXOS: The lease agreement between Emmis & GRC (Grupo Radio Centro) isn't (completely) up until April 2016.

Details from Emmis Communications SEC filing from a while ago:

On April 3, 2009, Emmis entered into an LMA for KXOS-FM in Los Angeles with a subsidiary of Grupo Radio Centro, S.A.B. de C.V (“GRC”), a Mexican broadcasting company. The LMA for KXOS-FM started on April 15, 2009 and will continue for up to 7 years. The LMA fee is $7 million per year. At any time during the LMA, GRC has the right to purchase the station for $110 million. At the end of the term, Emmis has the right to require GRC to purchase the station for the same amount. Under the LMA, Emmis continues to own and operate the station, with GRC providing Emmis with programming for broadcast.

Now, could the new Merlin Group make an offer that could not be refused? I suppose anything is possible. And while registering domain names can be interesting fodder for message boards (and sometimes proves fruitful as it just did with Cumulus and its just fired up Atlanta translator), it can't be the sole source of info regarding a possible format flip...especially since it's not being ballyhooed elsewhere and it seems that the business between Emmis and Merlin Group are done (at least for now).

I don't think there is any confirmation at all that talk will be done in either Chicago or NY; the deal was barely just announced.

It would be great if the station returns to a english format but at the same time easy money coming in from another company for a LMA. Me personally I would leave it alone until LMA ends. Can Emmis break the contract deal and pay them off? Yes or No? Does anybody even listen to 93.9 anymore?

Why would they give up what one would assume to be a profitable LMA to take a risk on another format that is untested on FM in LA that has a high operating cost and an unproven sales demand?

If they were serious about doing this, that would certainly poke CC to get on with moving KFI to FM, but what purpose would that serve Emmis?

The whole idea doesn't make a lot of sense.

I just saw the article on allaccess.com. I didnt read it all but Emmis is only selling its stations in Chicago and New York City I believe. Los Angeles is nowhere mention. 101.9 in New York has been having problems since its days as Smooth Jazz so that makes sense. I not really sure about the Chicago stations ratings and billing. I seriously doubt Emmis would put a news/talk station on the FM dial in LA. They had the perfect opprounity when KLSX flipped to KAMP. Might as well keep it where it is

The folks at CBS radio would be quite surprised to find that Emmis flipped KLSX to KAMP. ;)

Nobody said the Emmis flipped KLSX to KAMP. Learn to read. So CBS need not be surpised about anything!

Radio, you are a star. And correct. I misread the post when I originally saw it last night. Thanks.

Any updates on 93.9?? I see on the front page of R-I that THREE Emmis FM's will be leased on Friday. Is KXOS the third station??

I believe it is WLUP and WKQX in Chicago and WRXP in New York
