Emmis Says Goodbye To Hot 93.3

They changed COL to Cedar Park sometime back. But moving KLBJ-AM to 93.3 would be confusing to listeners who know KLBJ-FM as 93.7.

they probably change call letters or use kdht as hot talk. on 98.9 using kxbt that used to be on 104.9 and calling it big talker

I don't think - if the programming of KLBJ-AM were to goto 93.3 - that it would confuse listeners of KLBJ-FM at all. Different station identities, different brands, different personalities altogether. Besides, the corporate execs who program stations in NY and LA are able to help the local Austin guys pull this off, IF it is the programming of 590 that will go over to 93.3. That is something we still don't know.

Wow right before the holidays they do this. I hope the best for the staff! I don't see it changing to 590 KLBJ.Already 2 other talk formats in Austin on FM.

Just an FYI. In Mexico City about 1/4 of their FMs have some kind of news or talk format. And in other countries, AM is being abandoned in favor of FM for ALL local broadcasting.

The COL was originally Killeen. The tower is in Bertram (1988' HAAT if I remember right).

I was one of the engineers in Killeen back in 1986 that oversaw the construction of that monster. The first high power test was Dec 10 of that year, and we knew there were shadowing problems in south and west Austin. But, on Dec 11 the new owners came in and fired everyone, so it wasn't my problem anymore ;D. Three days later the station signed back on as B-93 from Austin with an entirely new staff. In spite of what the Wiki page says, there were never any broadcasts from Killeen.

I thought the front page said this station is stunting? Why is it still playing the same type of music?

They are stunting without the jocks.

My guess is they will be going to a talk format. If so, KLBJ-AM will will be simulcast on 93.3. The reason, to help keep their listeners from
migrating over to the other new talk/sports stations on FM. The timing of the change seems to indicate a talk format. Also, their move
in Indianapolis also seems to indicate this will be the case.

I LOVED B93 back then...well, KHFI was great too at that time. I've got some old airchecks from 91-92 from both stations (as well as KNNC 107.7).

Okay... who was keeping the list for 93.3?

It went something like
''Kix 93''
''B-93''
'Mix 93''
''Lone Star 93''
''Smooth Jazz 93''
''The 70s Station''
''Mega 93''
''Hot 93''
But I think there was also a Hot 93 Country in there somewhere.

Yea B93 was a good station, I was young at the time but I used to listen to that station alot. I wish I recorded the station while it was still around.

As soon as I figure out how to get those recordings on my computer, I'll post them for download if anybody wishes to listen.

well when you do get them if you need a place to host the files for download try ZSHARE. google it, its free.

I also miss Mega 93.3. Im happy that we have Mega HD2 but now they don't even have their internet stream up and I can't listen to it. I don't have an HD radio nor do I plan on getting one either.

I've heard two stories about the change coming to 93.3

1. They're going to go with a Regional Mexican Music Format

2. They're going to move KLBJ AM to protect that investment.

I have yet to hear any of the stunting over the air that is being reported.

Stunting is usually a tease of some sort. Elvis, Beatles... something of that order.
