The Radio Center stations (WBMH/WHOD/WRJX) in Jackson, Alabama, has three possible job openings.

I need an experienced and mature morning personality for BAMA-106, our full service/classic country station. You should be well versed in small market radio, be information oriented, know and enjoy classic country artists and their music, and able to communicate personably with an older, rural audience (35+ demos). You would work a M/F airshift from 5:00AM-10:00AM, and will cover either a Saturday or Sunday board shift. Copywriting and production experience would be required, with PLAY-BY-PLAY SPORTS experience a REAL plus. Need is immediate.

We also need a news director. I would consider a recent graduate, but would prefer someone who knows the drill of small market news gathering, writing and presentation. I am NOT looking for an investigative reporter, or someone who feels the need to editorialize in their newscasts. Sometimes, the lead news story may be about new lines being painted in the Wal-Mart parking lot! This is a job with long and sometimes odd hours, but the right candidate knows that they'll have plenty of time to rest after they die! Seriously, the coffee is plentiful and free, and the carpet is fairly soft, when the need for a power nap overwhelms you.

Last, but certainly not least, we could always use a GOOD salesperson or two. Our salespeople are making WAY above average wages for a small town in southwest Alabama. The ideal candidates know the rest of the story. It's a tough job, but someone has to do it. How about you?

As usual, Capital Assets, Inc. is an Equal Opportunity Employer, and we encourage applications from all qualified persons.

Send resume (and air check/work samples for on-air positions) to:

How above average is average?

With salary and commission, our salespeople have hit the 40k+ neighborhood. For Clarke and surrounding counties, the average is in the 20's.

I will say after talking to Jay that he is a straight up guy that has forgotten more about how radio should be than most of us have learned. His views are very rare to come upon in these days of corporate cookie cutter radio. I may just go over to AL and help him out if he'll have me. If you're a sales pro or want to move into a good, strong situation, this is a good chance. (suckup over)
