Encore Westerns in '07

The premium move channel is expanding its weekday classic TV western block by an hour beginning January 8. Restored versions of The Rifleman, with Chuck Conners and Bat Masterson, with Gene Barry are being added to the schedule. The new additions will be featured in day long marathons. The Rifleman on Saturday, Jan. 6, and Bat Masterson on Sunday January 7. Then on 1/08 the schedule will be:

4:30pm Gene Autry
5pm Bat Masterson (2 episodes)
6pm The Big Valley
7pm The Rifleman (2 episodes)

Alias Smith and Jones is being reduced to once a week, Saturdays at 7:30am.

It's probably time to cut back Alias Smith And Jones;
that show lasted one full season (1971-72) and parts
of two others (1970-71 and 1972-73). They'll have
five seasons of The Rifleman (1958-63) and three of
Bat Masterson (1958-61), from a time when, I believe,
39 episodes a season was still the norm. So they should
be well-fixed there.

I used to have Encore and my favorite channel was the Westerns. I liked watching the B & W Gunsmokes and the Lone Ranger. When they dropped them and added The Big Valley and Alias Smith & Jones I dropped it. Those two shows have been all over the cable dial and have been beat to death. I wasn't going to pay for the channel to watch these two duds. I like he idea of showing the old TV westerns. Bat Masterson is a step in the right direction. The Rifleman has been all over the dial but the quality of the films were very poor. Maybe, they'll be better on Encore. I'd like to see other chesnuts that haven't been show in a long time. Maybe Wagon Train (the ones with Ward Bond) and The Tales Of Wells Fargo would be a start. Even Rawhide would be good -although it has been around on other channels, again quailty of the films were poor.

The Encore package was once a treasure of classic TV shows - mostly shows not seen any where else for a long time.
My favorite at the time was Richard Greene in The Adventures of Robin. A true classic.
Then some genius decided they'd rather offer bad B movies nobody ever heard of instead of great TV shows.
I was happy to pay extra for the old Encore channels but no more.
I hope somebody from Encore reads this board. They are missing a great opportunity.
