End of the Bowery Boys

I should have mentioned this earlier for the few that will care, but Turner Classic Movies TCM is in the midst of showing the final 7 Bowery Boys movies released between 1956 and 1958 inclusive. They air Saturday morning at 10:30 AM. Years ago they were showing this big screen series in chronological order beginning with the first installment in 1946. However, they stopped after showing just the first 2 of the final seven films. The final seven are segmented from the others because series leader Leo Gorcey, who played "Slip" Mahoney, quit the series after appearing in only one film after his father, Bernard Gorcey... who played sweet shop owner Louie Dumbrowski ... was killed in an automobile accident. Stanley Clements stepped in to play "Duke" in the last seven films. Well, TCM just played "Hold That Hypnotist" (1957), the third of these last seven. It's one I didn't recall. Next up is "Spook Chasers" which is a really good episode full of action and notable for the spirited performances given by the cast. Then the next week we should witness "Looking For Danger" which is now the only Bowery Boys movie I have never seen. For the record, unlike Leo "Slip Mahoney" Gorcey, his brother David Gorcey (Condon), who plays "Chuck", stayed with the series until it ended.

It's also interesting that much the same Bowery Boys cast appeared in movies earlier in their careers as the "Dead End Kids".
