Energy 101.1

Do you really think that Emmis would flip WKQX FM to Energy 101.1?

Maybe someone should buy a Chicago signal and launch it.

The only signals available:

95.1, 96.7, 97.5, 98.3, 99.1, 100.7, 101.5, 102.3, 103.9, 104.7, 105.5, and 107.1

If a company can buy a station, that's ok.

But so far, those are the signals available.

I wonder if Energy can be on the AM dial?

Let's talk about this.

95.1 Is Wiil Kenosha. 96.7 is the star Joliet. 97.5 is WZOK Rockford. 98.3 is WCCQ Crest Hill. 100.7 is WRXQ Coal City 102.3 is WXLC Waukeegean, 103.9 is WWYW Dundee, 104.7 is WCFL Morris, 105.5 is WZSR woodstock, 107.1 WZVN in Lowell,IN. So the FCC will not grant any Lic. on thos freq. Your only bet is for a station to sell. however the advertisers wont want that format so its a lost cause. go get XM

Around Chicago you would HAVE TO BUY an existing station - or wait a lifetime to get through the red tape and court battle of putting a new one on.

I hesitate to say there are no open frequencies, but you'd have a long expensive fight. Why not broker time for a show as the POLKA people do?

There should be your dance station!! "ENERGY 101.1 Dance for Chicago"

If Emmis flips 101.1 to some sort of Rhythmic format, it will be Rhythmic AC as "Movin 101.1" well before it will ever be all Dance as "Energy 101.1".

First off. Who the hell are you gonna market too? 14 and 15 year olds that have no money? I love that type of music so I have Sirius. 24 hours a day no commercials. That type of format never works and ends up in the toilet.

Face it kids. radio is gone. gone forever!

No, it can be done, but it has to be done right.

For one thing, Dance music is popular with many people 18-24, some of the most coveted by advertisers. But you can't just play the music; you've got to have an extremely strong club presence, which is one of the reasons Energy 92.7&5 did so well. They were at a different club almost every night of the week, and on many nights they'd be at more than one club.

You also have to have very energetic personalities and very upbeat imaging.

Also have to have good mix shows that play different types of dance music, not just one type. Energy did well at this too. If it weren't for Big City Radio's stupid decisions in the past, Energy would still be here today. It was one of the few stations actually making money.

So it IS possible to be successful, but only if done right. There was briefly a dance station in Denver (102.1-X) a few years ago but it only lasted about 6 months because all they did was play the music....no personalities, no clubs, no mixshows.

anywho, that's my two cents.

The only way for Chicago to get a dance station is if an independent owner started one up. Emmis & CC aren't interested in dance radio in Chicago (at least not as a regular format), and won't give up any of their signals since this is market #3 we're talking about. Emmis especially won't give up their stations since they have only 2 and bill well. It's best to get satellite radio or listen to it on the internet. I don't see it coming to Chicago radio anytime soon.

So... in the meantime, check out Dance Factory on NINE FM 92.5, 92.7. 99.9FM CHICAGO Every Friday from 10pm-til 5am and Sat. from 8pm til 5am. Also stop by dancefactoryfm.com to learn more.
