Energy 92.7/101.1

When I lived in Phoenix, I was actually surprised that Phoenix had a dance station.
I don't know how it has existed for so long, considering Phoenix is NOT a party town!!!
But it looks like the station is not going to be on for much longer because of lack of support.
Phoenix and House/dance music just don't go together.
Why did Sierra H. Broadcasting want to put on a station like that in of all markets, Phoenix?

Well I think you are wrong for lack of support. I was at the Energy Xmas concert the other week and it sure seem like it was a big turn out. All of the jocks spoke and Rod Carillo said something to the effect of you have shown us your support and we will be doing many more of these shows in 2006. Also I believe Beau Duran said something like for a station that many folks said would last 6 months, we have now been on the air for 3 1/2 yrs! So it looks like Sierra is content with Energy for now or they wouldn't be throwing a party earlier this month.

First off, what makes you think I didn't support them? Besides, I don't even live in Phoenix anymore!!
All I was saying is that I am surprised that Phoenix of all places would have a station like that considering the masses there aren't really into the music.
Oh, and another thing, when Mikeo was the PD of the station, I tried to suggest to him what the audience might want to hear. I didn't mind pop/dance every once in awhile, but what about some deep house music? He totally acted like a jerk when I suggested that to him, maybe that's the reason why the station booted him out because he was NEVER open to suggestions from listeners.
Oh, and just because they threw a party for the station, doesn't mean that they still won't be canned. Corporations don't show loyalty to anyone anymore. You think you can be safe on a job one minute and you are out the next, ESPECIALLY IN RADIO!!!!! How do you know that the owners aren't planning something as we speak?

You're starting a STUPID rumor. People have been saying Energy wouldn't last long since day one, but guess what? It's still here! So unless you know for sure it's going away, don't speculate about it and get people riled up!

First of all, DON'T call me stupid!!!! You don't know me.
Second of all, I am NOT starting anything because it is obvious you don't know how radio (or any other business) works.
In the past few ratings books, Energy hasn't been showing up AT ALL!!! Just in this recent book they FINALLY they show up and they were DEAD LAST!!! If you don't believe me go to www.rronline.com or www.arbitron.com and see for yourself.
So tell me something, do you think a company is going to keep wasting money on a product that isn't generating revenue? I don't think so. Like I said previously, corporations don't have loyalty to anyone, I don't care if the station has been on three years or three months!!! If it isn't going to make money for them, they are going to pull it. I have seen it happen time and time again. I want dance music to succeed more than anyone, but at the same time I have to be realistic and think if this station can't even break a 1.0, what are the odds that the format will be changed?
Also, concerning the new things they said they were going to do in 2006, do you honestly think corporate is going to let on to the employees that they are considering axing the format? Stations do it all of the time. So whomever tried to call me stupid obviously DOESN'T live in the real world and THEY are the stupid one!!!!!!
I may not know for a fact what they plan on doing with Energy, BUT from life experience I have seen the writing on the wall before and it is NEVER a good outcome.

Mike is actually very open minded musically.
I like Deep House, but be honest - do you know of any Dance stations that play a lot of even a decent amount of Deep House in regular rotation? And I mean an FM Dance station, not an internet-only one that has a few thousand listeners.

Which Deep House records were you suggesting, or would you like to see Dance stations add?

Energy AZ faces by many problems. A very small budget for promotions, the worst signal in the Phoenix area, and a format that has always struggled to make it in most of the United States.

Well Mr. Mikeo wasn't very "open-minded" with me. The only I suggested that he play more of are artists like: Little Louie Vega, Tony Humphries, Kenny "Dope", Dj Jay-j, Miguel Migs and Marques Wyatt. But according to him, I shouldn't tell him what to play and to me that was VERY insulting as a listener. Not everyone wants to hear circuit music or a cheesy remix. The mainstream pop stations can play music like that.

Ummm, you had some good points but you're starting to sound like a weirdo. He didn't call you stupid. He said your speculations were a stupid rumor. Maybe that's debatable, but why get so upset? The trends show Energy is going up, and keep in mind they are 3-6 months behind. So the last book could very well show Mike's work. It's good to see Energy is playing more than circuit cheese now. Before, Mike had nothing but Circuit DJ's doing the mixshows with that tired Tribal beat all night long...yuck! What Phx needs is more support and less attitude from dance heads who think they know it all.

Ugh. Now I feel like I should get involved.

> So tell me something, do you think a company is going to
> keep wasting money on a product that isn't generating

You don't have any idea how we are doing from a revenue standpoint. I understand where you're coming from, though. Before I worked here I thought the only way to generate revenue was with ratings. While it certainly makes it easier, what Energy has done in 3 and 1/2 years proves you don't NEED ratings to make money. As I have said previously on these boards, we aren't one of the market's top billers by any stretch of the imagination, but we are not losing money either. There is consitent positive cash flow coming in at Energy.

> Like I said previously,
> corporations don't have loyalty to anyone, I don't care if

I wish you would stop referring to Sierra H as "corporate." We are far from it. I chat with the guy who owns the station(and our building) a couple times a week. How many CBS Radio employees can say that about Joel Hollander?

We don't have to answer the same questions that CC, CBS, Emmis or even Sandusky has to answer. We don't have stockholders. We have a guy who sits in the office next door. If he sees his properties making money, he is happy. We are, and he is.

> I have seen it happen time and time again. I want
> dance music to succeed more than anyone, but at the same

Energy hasn't broken a 1.0 in at least a year and a half. We haven't flipped. We are at a point where we have more management and staff support than ever. The GM is finaly starting to "get" what we are doing on Energy and he likes it. The guy I mentioned in the office next door loves what we are doing. That's all I can worry about.

> I may not know for a fact what they plan on doing with
> Energy, BUT from life experience I have seen the writing on

We're a station that is doing everything we can with the tools we are given. The support we get from both our listeners and the sponsors we do run is amazing. I understand from the outside it looks like there is no way that anyone in their right mind would keep this station alive. That's exactly how I felt before I started working here. If we were to flip tomorrow, I would have no regrets. I would know that we did all we could do.

Before,
> Mike had nothing but Circuit DJ's doing the mixshows with

I know what you mean Rod is the biggest flamer there! I just don't get his circuit/tibal stuff he would insist on playing. Oh, and DJ Perry. - Total queen. Lysa - my god, can you say faghag. She'd play whatever the boys wanted just to score......NOT.

And you thought the station sounded gay when I was there...let's see...who Performed at their show? How much has the DJ lineup changed? It's all perception.

It wasn't a gay station then, and it's not now. But no biggie - it's only radio. And if you like it more now - good for you. You can blame me all you want. In fact, I'll even take the blame for them not showing up in the latest trend.

Oh and who is this crazy guy that said i was an ass to him? Can you narrow it down. I'm an ass to everyone!

YOU GOT THAT RIGHT!!!! You know, it is really a shame that you have pissed off so many people that you have a lot of enemies. That's NOTHING to be proud of.

It's not if your last name is Battaglia.

Try that model on KNRJ...

And I only set out to piss you off. I guess all the others are bonus by-products!

Hey, did you hear the one about a guy who wanted to get a job at KNRJ so he sent in a tape and a cover letter on how to improve the station. Play more deep house and stuff. I called the guy up and said you may not want to tell the guy your trying to get to hire you how to run the station. It's best to be hired, observe and find an opportunity. That guy thougt I was an (BLEEP) too. He even took the time to write a 2-page email to the GM. I sure hope all Deep House guys aren't like that.

I'm very proud of what I've done. I can't please everyone. I'm sorry you think you have to be an enemy of mine. Life is too short to hate.

> First of all, DON'T call me stupid!!!! You don't know me.

Dude, you really need to calm down. You are taking everything personally. He said "you're starting a STUPID RUMOR!" He did not say you are stupid. He said the rumor you are starting is stupid. Big difference. Allow people to have an opinion around here without taking it personally. Everyone else is responding to your opinion but no one is taking it personally. I haven't said this in years, but, take a chill pill.

I don't think this person is purposely trying to set out to be an enemy of yours or wants to hate you, I think that is the LEAST of their worries. In my opinion, I think it isn't what you do, its HOW you do it. If this person weren't trying to get a job with your station and were just a listener telling you this is what they like to hear on the air, would you have questioned them?
Besides, I don't see the big deal anyway. Are PD's that insecure that they are not open to suggestion? Even if they were trying to get a job with the station at the time, SO WHAT!! To me that should have showed drive and that this indivdual may have had something to add to the table.
Isn't that what bosses CLAIM that they want from a future employee?
Also Mikeo, I have to be honest with you, I have read the message boards for Energy 92.7 and 101.1 in the past and I have seen you be hard on listeners who wanted to hear something different. I think you were somewhat nasty to a lot of them. Being a PD means being open to what listeners want, it isn't all about you. At least I THOUGHT that's what the job entailed.

So now that Mike is back running Energy 98, he can play whatever he wants. I like his station. Now that Energy 92.7/101.1 is has moved on without him, they can play whatever they want as well. I also like Energy 92.7/101.1 -

I like music with a beat. Certainly there are others out there that must agree with me and don't want to deal with all the BS that goes on behind the scenes. It's truly sad to see that happening within the community when it is so hard to keep the "Energy" going in this country, period.

Enough of the listeners bashing Mike and enough of Mike's listeners bashing Energy 92.7/101.1.

Can we say HATER of the year? You forgot to include Dohman, Bermudez, most of the Flux DJ's, Pistol Pete, Tony Z, and yourself. I would say any of the above you mentioned were just playing by your rules. Alright, so Pete is now back aboard and I know he doesn't spin. But my point is: that was the only brand you were offering for a LONG time. I can see you get bent out of shape very easily!

So which one is it? You didn't know Phoenix had a radio station in the past but you gave Mike O suggestions? Sounds like you think you should've been calling the shots. I'd bet your left testacle against both of mine that the ratings would've been worse. Your statement about the abysmal performance under "Mike O" shows you had knowledge.

You really need to get your BS together before you post such nonsense. Make it more believable so we're at least challenged. Your statement about giving him suggestions about what to program THAT IN ITSELF SHOWS YOU WERE WELL AWARE OF THE RADIO STATION IN THE PAST. In summary YOU'RE BUSTED as a PHONY.

You're obviously unhappy that people wish to hear SONGS instead of the anthems you appear to be a fan of. You're in the minority and that's OK. Please try again.

The station sounds better than it ever did - EVER. Why don't you and Mike O go make nice in a corner somewhere and leave real radio to people who understand what is necessary to attract people EN MASSE to a radio station.
