Energy 92.7 Now on Comcast

I wonder, since now that Energy can be heard on Comcast, all over the Bay Area, will this help the stations numbers? Do people listening on Comcast, count in the Arbitrons?

"Do people listening on Comcast, count in the Arbitrons?"

Nope.

I should clarify that by saying, it only counts if they mark their time spent lsitening in an Arbitron diary, those diaries are still the only thing that count.

Okay, here is what I originally thought. It counts, as long as the person marks it, as if they were listening VIA radio. What is to stop a Comcast listener from saying they listen to Energy VIA 92.7??? I would...

People can write whatever they want in the diaries whether it's true or not. That is why they aren't accurate. I think the industry is in for a shock if and when the Portable People Meter or something similar is used to calculate ratings. The system for radio is archaic and ridiculous.

Then, there's that whole problem of getting a Comcast cable connection and a TV with audio into a moving car.

:D

I've got Dishnetwork & they have 99 channels of Sirus plus 30 Musac channels.

> Comcast already offers a bunch of Music Choice channels - I haven't counted, so I don't know how many. I find it hard to believe that there is a market for commercial radio for Comcast customer, when there are non-commercial alternatives for practically any format, with much longer playlists.

I have been hoping for something like a portable people meter or something on telephone wires or SOMETHING that can tell what people are listening to and for how long. Arbitron is rediculous.

You're onto something Harp!

Until the day your radio can report results (most likely over IP) back to Arbitron we won't see any advancements in accuracy.

Imagine this, you've been in your car all day, you pull up to your house (that has DSL and WiFi) and your car radio sends a report to Arbitron about what you've listened to and how long you were listening... There you go.

I could be the next millionaire, EVERYONE will want that. :) Ok maybe not...<P ID="signature">______________

Arbitron has been develpoing the Portable People Meter for 15 years, and is currently doing the second test in the US in Houston. It is used in canada under licence, and in several other countries. Data on www.arbitron.com and click on People Meter link.

It does the same thing as the diary, but faster. Not much difference in the numbers, either.
