Energy Onix solid-state AM

I have a friend that has an Energy-Onix 1kw solid-state transmitter. It has some harmonic issues that have come up in his yearly proof.... A year ago. Several other stations that have the same box have the same harmonic emmision issue. It seems to be a component aging issue as his box is three years old now. Others that we know about have some time on them too. Bernie and freinds have repeatedly said they will provide a fix, but after a year of waiting there seems to be no real help from them. Has anyone else found the root cause of the problem (other than it saying Energy Onix on the nameplate)?

I have to say this thing has been a dissapointment from th day it was installed.... Far from trouble-free sevice, unlike their tube transmitters that are rock solid.

Sounds like a cap drying out and your loosing filtering of the signal. I've had the Harris Gates series do the same thing in that their caps or the PDM transistors blow and take out the filtering leading to harmonics.

Dying caps sounds pretty likely to me. The only trick is figuring out where those caps are that need to be changed out. I guess one thing I should check is the supply voltages in the rig itself. That would be a good start. I'll drag a scope out and see if there's some issue there before proceeding. To clarify, I stated harmonics earlier. What I really ment to say is spurs. The first one falls in the broadcast band and the rest are harmonics of that, etc. The spurs are about 96khz from carrier either side. After checking supply power what's next? Should I start in the common modulator section or should I start in the final amps (x3)?

Every one that I had found were the final amp filters causing those spurs. Can't hurt to check the supply voltages as well, some of the Harris caps are known for drying out so it is conceivable for another to do it as well.
