Anyone know who the Chief is. They have an AM @ 1220 in Sanford ME. that is off the air 80% of the time and when it is on, the audio is garbage, always breaking up. I have tried to call Boston, but all you get is an answering machine. They also own 92.1 in Sanford but that's just a simulcast. It's obvious they can't monitor the station and they don't give a sh*t but it's a shame to let it go like that. Any contact names or numbers would be a help.

Peter V rolled out to Clear Channel Miami several years back, and last I knew had gotten out of the biz.
When I was up there, the two ME Xmtr sites were handled by a contract engineer whose name escapes me. I don't know if that is still the case. However, the programming does originate from the Lynn, MA shop so I'd ask around there.

I heard it at the begining of summer and it was ESPN.
Wikipedia said they were broadcasting ESPN...

That page linked to a radio-locator page (which I couldn't get to on the radio-locator search)
which said it was "York County Radio" with a format of "Sports" but "Currently Off the Air" ("Last FCC update 7/23/10")
but maybe they went off for awhile and r-l hasn't updated yet

So, just for fun I called 781-595-6200, Main # for the group and same crap. No one answers the phone. No way to get to the engineers mailbox. Of course they don't give a rat's ass about the little AM in Sanford. It's just a write off and a waste of a license.... Hey, give it to me and I can do local radio for the area it covers. What a novel idea.

they had to give up the translator when they moved off the tower behind Malden Hospital ( technically Medford) to the new location in Boston
It came as part of the package with the Maine 92.1 I think.
It was an ESPN radio national feed, but with some local spots of course, and at least for the first few years that The Phoenix owned it they picked up the broadcast for Portland Sea Dogs (minor league baseball, Sox affiliate) and Portland Pirates (minor league hockey, Pittsburgh affiliate I believe).
Apart from the games/local spots everything else was just the national ESPN sports talk feed as far as I know. And I think the games may have gone away the past couple years and it was just ESPN 24/7.

Sadly, we will see more and more small AM's be poorly run like this as interest for the AM band shrinks.
Yes they did used to air local sports but around 2005 they stopped airing anything local and became ESPN all the time. I don't think it's ever got good ratings of course I have no idea.thetheo said:
Also about FNX owning 1220AM Sanford they did get it when they bought 92.1. It was a package deal. Too bad FNX wouldn't sell it and it could be run better. Of course WEEI would probably buy it.
