English Nick in serious accident!

Hey everyone,

Most of you know English Nick. He did many years at 96rock with us, and has recently been with 99x.

My mate drives around in a Mini Cooper - ( I know) - well last night he was in a serious accident. He broke his hip, and the injuries require surgery this week. Nick didn't have insurance so his home away from home, The 10 High in the Highlands, will be holding benefits to help him raise money to cover medical expenses.

If you're not aware, he's been hosting Metalsome Mondays for years. It's a live band, and you get to get on stage and sing karaoke style with them. It's a blast!!!

Tomorrow night is the first benefit. It will be every Sunday and Tuesday for the rest of January and into February.

Help us help our little English buddy!!!

Thanks!

Tim Rhodes

Just curious.....did the person who hit him not have insurance? They should be responsible for his medical bills if they had insurance.
If the accident was his fault and he was still paying for the Mini Cooper then he should have been required to carry full coverage insurance which usually includes medical.
If he was driving with no insurance then he has himself to thank for his "problem."

Regardless of fault, auto insurance does not help you in the short term. Without health insurance, you are responsible for all medical bills until the claim is fully settled and you can’t settle until everything is finalized or you’re screwed. It’s a catch-22 that I would not wish on anyone.

Good point Dash -
Being in an accident is bad news with, or without insurance. And if you're between jobs and without medical....that's risky!
One reason it is important to keep Grady open is because they will treat you with or without insurance. I thought most hospitals would wait for an insurance settlement if you can show proof of insurance.
Hope things get better for Nick.....

I'm sorry to hear. Nick is a terrific person and deserves better. I hope his recovery is quick. This business is tough enough. Thanks for the "heads up" Rhodsie. I wish all of the former 96rock family nothing but the best.

is this the same English Nick that was on KWOD 106.5 in Sacramento? Nick Monroe?

Please post where we can donate money for those of us no longer in the area.

I just found out about this Paypal account:

just go to www.paypal.com, click on "send money", then enter this email address [email protected], and follow the other instructions. 100% of what you donate through this will be given directly to Nick when he gets out of the hospital.

Georgia is no fault medical anyway. You are responsible for your own medical payments that come from a pool set up by your insurance company. After you max out you then go after the other party which could take years. My accident took 4 years to settle.

The paypal account was created on 1/14/08 and is unverified. Although there may be the noblest of intentions, it would be preferable to establish a trust account in Nick's name at any bank - Bank of America, Wachovia - both have tons of locations to make it easy to contribute. A brand new paypal account with a brand new yahoo email address inspires ZERO confidence...no offense intended to anyone, just trying to be safe.

No, you've got a point. I know that Metalsome (http://www.metalsome.net/) is having their charity performances. You might want to contact them and see if you can donate directly to them.

Any update on Nick's condition? Is there a prognosis for his recovery yet?

no insurance is like:
1. no condom.
2. no firewall.
3. no clue.
so now we all pay
for another's lack
of responsibility.

You know you are a real ass. It is really not his fault. Insurance for an individual policy is horrendous. Usually arouund 200 to 300 per month. Thank you Amerika..................

No. Thank you Congress, for socializing medicine.

Still, that guy is a real ass.

Wait a minute .....before you start insulting people....having insurance IS YOUR responsibility or you take the consequences.
I wish Nick well....please don't get me wrong. But he was driving a Mini Cooper....a $25000 dollar car. If you can afford a $25000 car you CAN afford insurance.
The REAL problem in Amerika....people's priorities are wrong. I drive a car with 280,000 miles on it, worth about $400, but I DO have insurance. Not just to protect myself but to protect OTHERS also.If I screw up....make a mistake....I will not put you in the position of having to pay for MY mistake. I can drive an expensive car with no insurance.....or drive a car I CAN AFFORD and pay for insurance....it's a choice....it's personal responsibility. Which choice do you think is correct?
Call me an ass too.....but these are my issues:
1. If you have insurance then you will get medical treatment without being bankrupted.
2. If you have no insurance you go to Grady. They treat people with no insurance every day. Healthcare for poor people IS available. It is a baldfaced lie to say it is not.
3. Nick drives an expensive car but chooses not to insure it. If he borrowed money to buy it he is REQUIRED to have insurance. He puts you and me at risk because if he damages my property then MY insurance company has to pay - which means MY insurance rates increase. Driving with no insurance is against state law. You are not supposed to get a tag. The cops might take you to jail and tow your car if they stop you and you can't prove insurance.
4. Have at least catastrophic insurance. This only costs $6-700 a year and will pay for major illness/accidents. You are financially foolish if you don't anticipate health issues and the possibility/probability of an accident.
Radio personalities MUST obey the law just like everyone else. I'm glad people care enough about Nick to raise money to help him.....it's nice to see people caring about other people. But don't insult people because they point out the truth and vent because they don't want to support people who avoid personal responsibility....and break the law too!

I'm sure Nick had car insurance, I believe the question here is his health insurance. This should be a lesson to people who are making decent bank who don't make personal health insurance a top priority. Best of luck to him in any event. He's a great dude and it's always sad to see guys like him get bad bounces.

Did anyone say he didn't have insurance? Even if had insurance he would still have other bills like the deductible and loss of wages. The bill collector doesn't stop just because you are in the hospital.
