English on 1610

I'm hearing English-language religious programming at 0530 UT on the east coast. It's competing with what sounds like CHHA. I don't think it's either of the other two Canadian stations; one is Haitian and the other is supposed to be oldies. Any clues?

Yes. Likely the Caribbean Beacon in Anguilla in the West Indies. Do you have a shortwave radio? If so, check 6090 kHz for the same programming.

And, I don't think they even ID....checking SW or a live Internet feed might be your only chance.

I received the Caribbean Beacon back in 2010 here in Western WA. Blew my mind, hearing 30kw @ 3800 miles... :D :)

Nice snag, dxho (and crainbo!). BTW, the 'other' Canadian (CHHA) is not an oldies station, but rather the Spanish language 'Voces Latinas'. Currently, I'm clearly hearing CPAM and CHHA mixing it up, with the Caribbean Beacon sneaking in underneath.

I have the Beacon listed at 50 kW @ a distance of 3179 KM (1975 miles) from my location.

I haven't listened to 1610 in ages because it's always been the info station for Tampa Int. Airport and hardly anything I can really hear in the background.

After seeing this post, I'm listening and there's a religious station on top of it.

Very nice catch! Looks like that's about 1400 miles from you. Mine was almost 3x that distance. :)

I heard the Beacon for the first time in 1981....possibly the first AM station above 1610. I wondered at that time if it were even legal.
