Enjoy KCDX non-stop rock while you can!

It looks like after seven years of working things out with the FCC and Mexico, KCDX has finally received approval to move closer to Tucson. Like all good things, it looks like non-stop rock may come to an end soon once the Air Rancher finds a buyer who will build the new facility, and most likely target Tucson with a new format.

The "Air Rancher" story is a myth put out by a family that owns stations all over the country.

They are well known for moving into small and medium markets... buying up signals... for the sole purpose of moving them closer to big cities for big money.

It's like small signal musical chairs and the ones that lose are the small community stations they destroy.

Kinda heartless... but I guess that's how it goes.

The CP was granted on April 2.

At 95,000 watts, their signal should still reach the East Valley pretty well. The COL will remain Florence, my guess being that they'll ID as "Florence/Tucson/Phoenix."

Maybe they could buy KXAM and move it closer to Phoenix. ;D

I know about DWAR and their business model. There are a few others out there (including a couple prominent guys in Chicago who have made a fortune doing so and also a company out of Dallas that also has a "spectrum innovation lab") that do the same thing. If you owned a small-market station, and was approached by one of these companies with $$$, would you refuse?

To me, it looks like the East Valley coverage will be a little better than its current facilities, but not much better. My guess is that it will be sold to someone who wants to target Tucson and not Phoenix.
