Enjoy The Silence by Depeche Mode on WOCL Orlando

WOCL/105.9 Sunny Orlando played "Enjoy The Silence" by Depeche Mode a few weeks ago. Love the song but how does a Greatest Hit station focusing on Top 40 Music from 1964-1989 make room for a song from 1990. Especially one that was originally a Modern Rock hit.

The only other 2 90's songs Sunny has played in the past were "Black Velvet" and "Don't wanna miss a thing". Which I could understand both those songs being "Black Velvet" was about Elvis and the other is an Aerosmith song. I'm excluded all the songs they play during "Saturday Night Dance Showcase".

Isn't it a little weird that a song still getting Hot AC airplay (at least were I live) is on a Greatest Hits station.

Has CBS added some 90's on Greatest Hits stations elsewhere.

It's a little weird to make a big deal out of a song that was recorded in 1989 and only missed some arbitrary cut-off date for an artificial music format definition by 36 days because it was released on February 5th, 1990! It's a little weird to worry about whether or not someone realized that a song got accidentally pigeonholed in the wrong classification and corrected their error and moved it to where it belonged.

You don't suppose that maybe someone actually listened to the song and made a decision based on what the song actually sounded like?

No, that couldn't be possible. That would make too much sense.

I agree. Some folks definitely overthink these things. Our '80s station (when we had one) played from 1978-1993! And they later added in cuts from as early as 1975!

Just don't overthink it, people!

And they didn't play "Enjoy the Silence". If they had, they might have had some ratings, Firepoint. One of the best songs EVER! Even a Hippie would appreciate that song! Haha

Wouldn't a greatest hits station play the greatest hits regardless of decade unless they are promoting certain years? I'm not familiar with this specific station so I can't really say either way just pointing out the obvious.

With the changes in music, 1990 was a time long ago and far away. Yes, I heard someone say The other day "i loved listening to TLC when I was growing up" More Early 90's will start to show up on so called classic hits stations.

Hippie plays "Touch of Grey" by the Grateful Dead, which was from 1987, well past Hippie's usual time frame, and was the Dead's only actual bona fide "hit."
