Enjoyed My Visit To Alabaster Today

While there, I was checking out WZAL-LP. I still love their presentation. It's very professional sounding. Loved the way they mix up the songs. Keep up the good work guys.

I'm still wondering if WBYE's old building and tower are going to be demolished? That entire facility has now gone to a complete nothing. So sad indeed.

If you think you could still help me get some of that old broadcasting equipment, Mr. Passtheword, let me know. I would like to get, what can still be used.

We can leave the music CD's behind. I have no intentions of playing any of those singers, on Jesus Radio. My community has enough of that on the radio already. Want to do things the other players aren't already doing.

P.S. Liked what I saw in Alabaster. My how that place has grown over the years. I'm very impressed with that entire city. Hope the growth will continue for them.

It's hard to believe how much it's changed since I lived in the area (Helena) 10 years ago. Twenty years ago, being from the west side of Jefferson County, I didn't even know Alabaster, Pelham and Helena existed!

Such a shame about WBYE, indeed. It's time as a small town community AM have come and gone and I certainly don't see any way it will ever return. And I don't think the facility would work for an enterprising LPFM due to the costs involved in getting it habitable again. Not sure it's close enough to Calera or Montevallo for 100 watts, anyway.

I wish something like WZAL-LP had been around when I lived in the area. Might've staved off some of the disillusion I had with big city corporate radio back then. I'm going through the a second wave of that now down here on the coast. ;)

RDP, let me know if you need the number for Progressive United Communications. I may still have it here floating around in my email. They did not express much interest in selling the station, but then again...there was no license, anymore, since the FCC canceled it in 2012. They might be interested in selling the equipment to you, however.

WZAL is a well-run operation, although their music mix is not my idea of good programming. I just don't think rock, country, pop, and contemporary christian meld very well in one setting.

Zach, WBYE will not be able to return, given the license is no more. I have heard that if more than a year has elapsed since the license was canceled, the FCC isn't interested in granting any application to renew it. Both my dad, who used to be a DJ at WBYE in the early 70's, and I had both spoken with Progressive on several occasions not long after WBYE's license was canceled, as to see about possibly of buying the station. They seemed very indifferent to all of it, which I imagine is why Progressive didn't even both to renew the license.

I did call them, a few years back. They never got back with me. So sad to see WBYE go down like it did. Shameful indeed.
