Enjoying Jack FM

Hell Yeah! Bring back Active Rock K-Rock! With O&A mornings NY's Real Rock 92 min rock blocks all day! The New K-Rock! would be #1 preset for me.

They were OK at times, but they had their problems. They tried utilizing a CHR/Urban mentality to the Active/Alternative format (as in, play the hits, play nothing but the hits, play them until all of your listeners are sick of them, and then play them some more), and we saw what happened to them. I agree that CBS/Infinity should try an Active or Alternative Rock format again (if they don't, who will?), but it should sound very different from K-Rock - they need to play a deeper variety of both Currents and Gold selections, and they need to avoid playing polarizing crap like Kelly Osbourne (yes, they played her, and quite a bit for a month or so). Read a more-detailed description of the problems that plagued K-Rock here: http://www.radio-info.com/smf/index.php/topic,46544.msg323428.html#msg323428

Count me in as a Jack FM listener (when in the car...at home, I typically stick to my mp3s these days)...I think their music mix is much better than PLJ. It seems to me that PLJ backed off from their expanded playlist which they seemed to be going towards last year (they had started airing a lot of 70's and 80's music they previously hadn't touched, in the months before Jack FM came on the air). Their 80's show on Saturdays, which was also once great, now sounds scripted and plastic.

IF you're talking about the comedy, it was always scripted from day one, wasn't it? That's why I don't listen to it at all. No offense to Todd P and Harry, but in this case, I don't find Scripted to be as funny as the stuff you get live. I'll always miss the 70's show they had with Al Bandero. I tuned into that regularly.

Bandiero's 70's show eventually evolved into an 80's show on PLJ. It was a thrill to hear Bandiero play rock hits after years of being associated with "disco" and dance. People forget that he worked at Top 40 stations WIFI 92 in Philly, 99X in New York, and WKBW in Buffalo before working at mainly disco stations afterwards.
Anyhow, after Bandiero left WPLJ, I believe Jamie Lee took over the show. Even though she's nothing to write home about, at least the show was live and local. Pettingill's show is (and sounds) pre-recorded and scripted, as others have pointed out.
