Enjoying WHDH in HD

Now WBZ needs to play catch up and get into the HD Game. Now let's take a look at Providence too. They don't have any Newscasts in HD. Who will be first? Any guesses? I would say WPRI since they like to be on the cutting edge. Only time will tell.

WTNH-DT channel 10 of New Haven was the first digital TV station to sign on in Connecticut. Now I may be wrong, but I could swear that WFSB-DT channel 33 ran a local spot for Eyewitness News in HD during Super Bowl XLI last year.

WTNH might have been the first to go DT, but their newscasts are not in HD. Nor are WFSB yet. I'm suprised given their new studio.

That would have been two years ago, and they did do an HD spot. (Last year's disappointment was on FOX).

No...XLI was in Miami in February of 2007. My only letdown? It was the last time I recorded a Super Bowl on an analog cable channel. Just so you know, the copy on my DVD+RW of this year's All Star Game was only slightly better, recorded of WTIC-DT. The Magnavox DVD recorder/player with built-in digital tuner labeled the station as "61-1", although my TV's QAM tuner puts then as 91-2. Hmmm!

P.S. I can watch the helmet catch over and over again and not get tired of it! :)

I have a Magnavox DVD Recorder too - but whenever I try to record from an HD Channel it gives me those black bars all around it - I tried fixing some settings but no luck - any idea?

It's because the recorder is downconverting the signal so a conventional DVD player can use it. The recorder/player can not display anything higher than a 480p (progressive) signal, even on an HDTV set like my 26" Sanyo. In my case, the All Star Game still looks better on playback than the same would've had it been recorded off of the cable channel 6 version of WTIC-TV (Comcast of New Britain).

I understand - thanks for the info. I am sure HD-DVD-R's will be out ( Or are already out there?) I know of blu-ray but so far haven't priced those players
