jo jo and dudeman2000 I believe you have mistaken me for someone else. Who do you think I am? What commercial? No wonder why you two write weird comments. THE GREAT HOUDINI has been mistaken.

Define, 'weird' for us.. Why don't you tell us about your cluster of stations that you oversee, we all know there's at least one AM in the group, perhaps a AAA, CHR, Country, and a gold based soft AC as well. I know of a few parallel situations in New England and NY state.. Even two that are currently are housed with studios in multiple locations.. Perhaps if you are around Springfield, shouldn't you be posting your thoughts on the Massachusetts or Connecticut board ?? You can probably receive better advice from us, 'big market wannabees stuck in small market"... Well...

Who people think people are are of no concern unless you like playing games.

Now if you want people to actually help you get this AM off the ground then you ought to be giving clues that help define what your situation is, not cloud it up. Otherwise, I think I speak for the group on this, we will blow you off.
 
If any of you enjoy Big band and the Standards of the 50's, CHWO 740 AM Toronto is a great station, pushing
out 50,000 clear channel but here at night not that good. They are now on the internet streaming live.

CHWO AM 740 blasts into New England at night, and sounds pretty good too. Actually has decent numbers in the Buffalo market. Used to be CBL, part of the CBC. 740 AM in Toronto is still the primary clear channel. If you want a treat, check out WABC 77 Saturday nights for Saturday night oldies, complete with all the legendary "Musicradio 77" jingles and vintage commercials..
 
so do you think a 50,000 watt station (am) would work in the Rutland, killington, Leb market?
 
hMM...Why go AM when there is a perfectly wasted 105.3 signal on the FM? What kind of 50k talk station would you run? Would it focus on local issues? What would be local? West Leb, Rutland, Killington, Glens Falls? Can your staff or WILL your staff be able to treat "local" as the entire listening area, or just where the studio is located. Do you plan on hiring a news crew to cover all the localities?

What about sports? How many high schools and colleges can you logistically cover at a profit?

Make it sound "big" Mr. Marbles...in order to make it work its gotta be BIG...take a listen to WGY out of Albany...I'm sure you can hear it from where you are...or go online for the stream. WGY has a great mix of syndicated and local talk shows...but no sports...I'm sure there are other examples of big talk stations..WGY is the closest I can think of.
 
Dudeman, do you think the 105.3 signal is wasted, or do you think the Pamal brigade does not know how to sell it ? AAA does have a place, however the only times I want to listen, the "freaking Yankees' are on. I can see the Yankee broadcasts causing a huge uproar with the WEBK's primary core of listeners. AAA and the Yankee are totally incompatible.

WGY is well done, I totally agree there. As is WVMT in Burlington. WDEV is a true original. WKBK in Keene is very well done for a city similar in size to Rutland.
 
I suppose you are correct Jo Jo...the Pamal crew couldn't sell an ice powered space heater to an Everest hiker...but thats the subject for a different string. ;)
 
Oooo Dudeman.. Yooouuuccccchhhhhhhhhhhhh ! From what I know of the sales staff, and the sales managers, they seem to be a good, hard working, bunch of people.. Perhaps it's where the sales managers are taking the direction from, and I agree with you totally, that is another thread for a different day, after all it's not good to 'poke any bears'.. :p
 
for sure...we don't want to "lose"! Good point about the staff...and my apologies to those on that crew...no offense intended to those I do not know...it seems to me that many of them had more success under the thumb of Clear Channel than with the Gilligan cast-aways...you can't sell for someone you don't like, perhaps? Even though the lack of sales lowers your paycheck!

Back to AM...can a group with so many strong FM signals to push on the advertiser sell spots on the dinky AM? Must they believe? What can a bear do to motivate the FMers who were told, for years, to down-play the power of AM?

The good and bad parts of WSYB are that there is no competition on the AM side of the dial.. Unless Kracko and the boys try to bring the old WHWB back to life. Though that would be hard since I believe the FCC does not issue any licenses for daytime stations anymore, and the thought of having to build a tower array for a small night time signal by "Wilson's Barn" would be one huge act 250 pain in the toosh. The old cement tower footings are still there for the original WHWB self supporting tower. Competition breeds choice, and brings out the best in peoples abilities. The FM's int he market used to be that was as well, before 4 out of the 5 FM signals found their way under common ownership..

Back to AM, there's so many great talk shows out there that would work well in the Rutland area, plus another local AM could be a place to develop local talent. Kracko would not even consider going up against the wall of talent at with Jack, Vince, and John at WSYB in regards to local sports unless Kracko could bag them, and hire them all away. But then again, not everybody wants to hear Fox Sports Radio. Kracko likes ESPN Radio, given the choice of the two.
