Enough with the LPFM's

Enough with the LPFMs.

A couple weeks ago in Northeast Radio Watch I read that there's going to be an LPFM on 96.9 in New Britain. The station is currently an unlicensed AM station broadcasting Spanish Christian programming on 1620 AM. A couple of times I've heard them give out an address on Osgood Ave in New Britain to send in donations. - Unlicensed stations should not be granted FCC licenses. This new station will certainly interfere with Red Wolf's BOMBA 97.1 translator which broadcasts from Bolton and comes in really well in New Britain. Yeah I know LPFM's out rank translators in the world of interference.

Today in NERW I read there's going to be a 98.7 LPFM station in Bloomfield. Although you can't pick up Hall's 98.7 WNLC (EAST LYME) in Bloomfield I can pick them up from time to time in parts of Southington and Bristol.

You've just shot down two of your arguments. LPFMs take priority over translators, period, and extreme fringe listenership (which Southington and Bristol would certainly be to a station in East Lyme) is a non-factor in deciding to put an LPFM on the same frequency in Bloomfield -- especially since Southington and Bristol themselves wouldn't be the primary or even secondary targets of a Bloomfield LPFM in the first place.

I do agree with not allowing former pirates to go legit, ever. I have a feeling that the fact that the pirate was an ethnic Godcaster may have influenced the FCC's decision, wouldn't have been PC to deny an oppressed minority (albeit preaching the nation's predominant religion) an opportunity to put its voice on the public airwaves. If the 1620 folks had been a bunch of suburban would-be revolutionaries playing Clash and N.W.A. albums 24/7 from mom's basement, things might have gone quite differently.

The FCC doesn't know if an applicant is a pirate or not unless someone tells them.
