Entercom is going make major cuts...KC first and then all of the
under-performing markets.

If they automate the KOIT daytime they'll be shooting themselves in the foot. I suspect they'll leave a proven performer alone, though.

Gosh, wouldn't it be awful if Larry Ickes was voice-tracked reading those liners? Reading them live makes all the difference.

Seriously though - if automation is involved in the cut-backs, I would imagine The Wolf would be first, KDFC second, and KOIT last.

Whoa boys, I don't think the Catholics would appreciate KOIT back on 1260 with voice-tracking, how does that work? Someone asleep at the wheel?

Huh? We were referring to KOIT-FM. I don't think Entercom owns KOIT-AM any more, or if they still do - they broker it to the Catholic Church and don't have any say in the programming.

I've only listened to religious radio stations a few times out of curiosity, and not recently. But I would assume that most of their programming is pre-recorded in any case

I've enjoyed Bobby Ocean on KOIT when he's been subbing. He adds lots of life to that station. Yeah, I know that KOIT generally sounds automated, but if you listen enough you know the difference -- pre-7pm it just sounds than post-7pm.

You're right, David. I heard Bobby filling in on a Saturday afternoon a couple of months ago, and he told a funny story that probably took 3 minutes...definitely a departure from the "Less Talk" rule.

Laurie Saunders in the afternoon also ad-libs fair amount, does trivia contests and talks about some of the artists and other showbiz stuff...I'm sure she talks more than the jocks on many stations, these days. But Ickes generally sticks to straight liner regurgitation.

All of the announcers on KOIT FM sound tired including Bobbby Ocean, he's trying to force his voice because of age. I listen for the music and could care less about what happens between the songs except for the commercials which are also very good quality as the music. The music does go off on tangents now and then, I.E. too many cult female type artists back to back. I think that they feel they have to force-feed some artists on the listeners. However, not bad for a non-researched format. Remember when the Mormon empire from Salt Lake could only entertain the elevators?

I had a couple of fresh-faced kids who rode up to our doorstep on bicycles the other day who were pretty entertaining...

What makes you think KOIT doesn't research?

Newsperson responds:

KOIT-AM was sold directly to Immaculate Heart Radio and Entercom never owned it. A lot of their progaming is live and comes out of Sacramento. As I recall the call letters are now KSFB.

I expect that the layoffs will be more in middle management and not so much in the air staff.

We should know soon.

Newsperson

KOIT, non-researched? Are you High? Vallie/Richards consult KOIT and the last time they took a chance on a record Clinton was President!

You answered it.....that's why it doesn't require research.....just a seasoned Music Director and Assistant. They still cannot get their female artists to balance with the format.

AC's require a lot of research to prevent library burn, demo balancing of flow, etc. I'd bet that, in today's economy, KOIT is one of the stations doing the most research in the market.
