Entercom announces what it keeps, what it doesn't

Tilden's thread about 89.7 and 90.9 and their various news and talk shows does point out that is much of what they do_Over the years many jazz, folk, blues or classical shows got dropped though they did pick up WCRB for classical. They may be non commercial but they found news and talk a good revenue producer. Costs money but makes money.
Have seen this in other cities too where music gave way to news/talk on public radio.Does OK in ratings too.

2012 WGBH scales back jazz

WBUR and WGBH ARE NOT ALL NEWS STATIONS!

In the traditional sense..no. They don't read headlines all day

However, in the practical sense...they are.

The broadcast credible news....or they are talking 'about the news'.

This is probably the future...instead of an announcer reading headlines all the time....some extra time to discuss and analyze the news.

I would call NPR they current (and future) incarnation of news stations.

I disagree.
Unless you get news and updates 24/7, it is not a NEWS station.
While WGBH, provide regular news, on the top and bottom of the hour with local break ins in some departs, but not available in others.
As far Heart's " Newsradio" branding, it's very unreliable source of news, and sometimes local news is non existent.
I have a great deal of contempt for them, and I fear that WBZ will be like that.

That's a very limited (and dated) perspective of a news station.

The only stations I know of that do it 24/7 are WINS and WCBS.

Re: WBGH?WBURT..... in between they are talking about the news and analyzing it.

(The exception being when they run an entertainment show on the weekend. )

You are forgetting WBUR...."The Largest Radio News Staff in Boston"! I hear local news being delivered even in the overnights.

You need to travel a bit more.

That slogan reminds me of WNEW FM who said they had the largest on air library.
I always thought that it would be nice if they actually played most.
I can't speak for you, but I don't like to be lied to, or conned

"newsradio" wtam, newsradio 920, whjj, newsradio 740 ktrh, newsradio 700, wlw, very little f ing news
that's the lie, that's the con

Do you know how to punctuate and use the upper-case?

btw...it's only a con if you think newsradio = people reading news copy.....and not people analyzing and discussing news.

I am still very surprised that Beasley let WMJX go, albeit at a price! I guess that they see Sports as a much more money maker and owning the mainstream Adult Contemporary market.

If Beasley sees sports as a bigger money maker than WMJX, it would be correct. WBZ-FM is the second highest billing station in the market, and it and WEEI-FM combine for almost a quarter of all of the market revenue. The Sports Hub bills quite-a-bit more than Magic!

No surprise there. Magic wouldn't be much of a "listen at work" station if it had the spot load of Sports Hub. And besides, most sports radio listeners are active rather than passive. They'll stay tuned through the long sets of ads because they're interested in the ongoing discussion (or the topic of the next discussion after the break, which of course the hosts will tease going into it) and want to hear what comes next. The typical listener to an AC station in an office couldn't even tell you what was played two songs ago. So why wouldn't advertisers pay more to be on WBZ-FM than on WMJX?

The other major advantage is the ability to market and sell being the voice of the Super Bowl champs. Who wouldn't want that opportunity? There is no comparable sales opportunity for a music station.

Now here's a scenerio, Newsradio moves to the FM. Iheartradio then merges and tweaks the formats of Jam'n 94.5 and the new 97.7. I'm not saying that will happen, but it could happen!
