Entercom/Bonneville swappin' spit

Hearing Entercom to trade KIRO/KTTH/KBSG to Bonneville for their San Francisco properties.

KIRO once again under Bonneville ownership...those stations already (and conveniently) separately housed on Eastlake.

Entercom Announces Station Exchange with Bonneville

Entercom Enters San Francisco Radio Market Press Release

BALA CYNWYD, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Entercom Communications Corp. (NYSE:ETM) today announced the signing of a definitive agreement to exchange four radio stations in Cincinnati, OH and three of its seven radio stations in Seattle, WA for Bonneville International Corporation’s three FM radio stations in San Francisco, CA.

The swap of assets will include Entercom's four FM stations in Cincinnati (WUBE-FM, WKRQ-FM, WYGY-FM, and WSWD-FM) and one FM and two AM stations in Seattle (KBSG-FM, KIRO-AM, and KTTH-AM). In exchange, Entercom will receive from Bonneville three FM stations in San Francisco: KOIT-FM, KDFC-FM, and KMAX-FM. KOIT is an award-winning Adult Contemporary station, a perennial market ratings leader and one of the nation's most respected radio brands. KDFC is one of the nation's leading Classical stations while KMAX is a newly formatted station that debuted an Eclectic Hits format in 2006.

Entercom will retain a strong position in the Seattle market with a cluster of four FM stations, including several of the market's leading brands: KMTT-FM, KNDD-FM, KISW-FM and KKWF-FM. The Mountain, The End, and KISW are each leading rock stations that have achieved great success locally and are widely respected nationally for their leading-edge programming in this highly important center of musical innovation. The Wolf (Country) debuted in late 2005 and has emerged as Seattle's fastest growing station.

David J. Field, Entercom’s President and CEO stated: "We are very pleased to announce the acquisition of this terrific group of stations in San Francisco, one of America's greatest markets. This is a bittersweet event for us as we will be parting with so many wonderful members of the Entercom team in Seattle and Cincinnati, some of whom we have worked with for more than a decade. However, the opportunity to enter the fourth largest market with a station group led by KOIT, one of America's strongest radio brands, was incredibly compelling. In addition, we will remain a powerful force in Seattle radio with a robust lineup of four leading FM brands."

The parties expect to begin operations under a time brokerage agreement upon clearance of certain regulatory requirements, which is expected during the first quarter of 2007. The closing of this transaction is subject to FCC approval, which is expected later this year and the closing by Entercom on the pending acquisitions of the stations in Cincinnati. Entercom anticipates the transaction will have no material impact on the Company's 2007 Station Operating Income.

Entercom is one of the nation's largest radio broadcasters with operations (proforma for pending transactions) in San Francisco, Boston, Seattle, Denver, Sacramento, Portland, Kansas City, Indianapolis, Milwaukee, Austin, Norfolk, Buffalo, New Orleans, Providence, Memphis, Greensboro, Rochester, Greenville/Spartanburg, Madison, Wichita, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Springfield and Gainesville/Ocala.

Shouldn't that read 2 leading FM Brands, 1 were trying depserately to address with recent morning show changes, and one that will not make it through 2007.

Yeah, Bonneville will most likely but KIRO on FM. Everyone said 107.7 would be KIRO-FM, but Entercom would never do that. They are comitted to KNDD and there's a strong rumor that a local morning show is on the way.

So this means Heaven does exist. The evil Entercom Empire is shrinking its way out of Seattle. That can only mean one thing. Less assholes in charge of peoples careers in the Seattle market. Good bye to 1/2 of Entercom Seattle. While you were here you acomplished many things....... You succsessfully killed a few stations with poor decisions over and over again. You pushed away good talent and treated them so poorly that most will never return to work for your god awfull company. You took the art of radio and took a dump on it and you soon will pay the price. I am glad you are going down to SF to ruin stations in another city. Keep up the good work David Field. You suck.

Robin nice to hear from you again. Say hi to John for me. =)

Wow! I'm completely taken by surprise by this thing. Bonneville operated KIRO very successfully for many years, and so I think this is a good match. It's apparent Entercom hadn't the means or inclination to do news. I will bet that KBSG flips to KIRO-FM. EZ squeezy, just flip the switch.

Amen brothers in the business... and out of it because of that young punk. I'll bet the folks at KIRO think they just won the radio lottery.

So would that mean Oldies moves to 107.7?

KNDD has to ditch Corolla in the morning. Sounds like the Church of Lazlo is getting ready for the morning slot... just by the way that afternoon show is coming together.

Like I've said before (though I have been living out of market for the last 6 months - but I'm back in town now) I am in the target demo for KNDD. But yet - there are so many hours of the day when there isn't any music playing on the station. How can this be our rock station here in Seattle? When they do play music, it sounds great. But that five hour morning block of Carolla, plus the loveline block at night, means that when I'm not otherwise occupied, I can't listen to music.

I doubt it. I'd bet on Bonneville flushing KBSG, turning 97.3 into KIRO-FM.

Jay Kelly probably started partying today when the press releases started flying.

only problem with bonny doing something like simulcasting KIRO on KBSG is:
1) they go from 3 sticks to 2
2) thier revenue on KIRO takes a serious dive....

Bonneville threw a simulcast signal on one of their under performing FM stations in Salt Lake - but they aren't foolish enough to do that with KBSG. Give me a break. KBSG has NO expenses and FAB cash flow. The boys in two-pant suits are going to ride that horse straight into the ground sucking cash till the last minute.

I can only imagine that David Field flashed some mirrors and a little Philly Steak flatulence to get Bonneville to swap three FM's in the 4th largest market in America (and a desirable place to live too) for a cluster of stations that are at the end of their life cycle. Hello. And Cincinatti? Well...it doesn't need to be said.

Alot of experienced people looked at this before it hit the trades today - so clearly there is something we don't know. Maybe a free Temple Recommend for all Entercom employees...

While I would have to think KBSG has more to worry about than some of the other Bonneville stations as the FM news initiative was designed to strengthen existing brands of AM news/talk stations, I would also have to agree that Bonneville will not dump the oldies format unless it's underperforming. If it continues to make enough money, it won't go anywhere. Also, remember that Bonneville's FM news architect is no longer with the company, which leaves the future of the FM news initiative in doubt.

Anyone think Bonneville is going to be MOVIN in on ( buy ) Sandusky's cluster ??? Flip one of those FM's to a talker ????
