Entercom - Drop the stereo on 106.3!

Why is Entercom still broadcasting WYRD-FM 106.3's talk format in stereo? Just about all talk stations broadcasting on FM usually broadcast in mono as it makes the signal more listenable. With it in stereo you can hear static in the background, even 20-25 miles from the antenna. Very annoying. Mono, however usually eliminates that.

Anybody know their reasoning?

Well, knowing Entercom Greenville, they may not staff anybody that knows the difference between mono and stereo. lol

if they are just going to yak forever on 106.3 they really need to fix that. Come to think of it they never took it off when Greenstone was airing. Talk in FM mono and FM stereo sounds virtually the same but it helps the signal if in mono.

and the sales department is programming christmas music on 98.9 november 1. I wonder when 106.3 will be HD. That may take two soldering guns. ;D

Two soldering guns??? They probably don't have that many....106.3 will probably not be HD until it is sold or they flip again and simulcast 1330/950 on 106.3 HD-2. Hahaha..

I best most of the commercials and imaging are produced in stereo.

Also, the average FM radio listener will think there's something wrong with their radio or the station if the stereo light doesn't come on, even though the programming is in mono.

Right now HD is good for companies that made too much money and need a tax write off. I have to admit that when I get a station with no stero signal I look to see whats wrong.
