Entercom HD

I am by no means the HD radio expert (never used one), and may be wrong, but it looks like Entercom isn't running a HD-2 channel on 'ROQ, 'TPT or GVC. What gives? Looks like the only ones running a subchannel are Magic and B. Or am I wrong?
Seems rather odd, unless the Barnstable purchase has something to do with it, which I'm suspecting.

I know that one reason for 93.3 is that they have a STL problem and was running a T-1 to the TX on White Oak...not sure if it still is true. I know that they are trying to move the TX to Hogback, not sure if they have to downgrade or not being so close to the 2nd adjacent channel. If they move, they will be HD.

If the radio groups in Greenville had put as much effort into the HD product as they did in promoting it before it was even on the air, somebody might care about HD Radio.

That's a valid comment. However, there's a lot to what you're hearing or not hearing. The 'promos' are mandated by the HD Alliance which most major radio groups have agreed to. So, in the case of TPT & ROQ who aren't even in HD yet, they still have to run the promos/commercials. I can speak specifically to our challenges... technology is ahead of repair and 'in field' knowledge. So when we have a snafu, it takes forever and a day to track down the real issue. Our HD-2 box has been sent around the globe and back a few times. Just was up there last night to do something as simple as unplug the unit and plug it back in. Simple but you gotta be there, make the drive to the mountain, drop the other 8 things you were doing, etc. We all want everything to work and, as radios hit the field, bugs are worked out, etc. we'll get there. In the meantime, 89.3, 92.5, 93.7, 96.7, 98.9, 100.5, 102.5 all have HD and secondary channels. 'LFJ is running 3 and be sure to tune in 1490 in G'vl area to hear what HD can do for AM. You go from the hum and crackly buzz sound to crystal clear and stereo. Kudos to their peeps.

Well, surely you understand that the listeners don't give a rat's @#$ about all that. Why did you promote the daylights out of something that wasn't anywhere near where it needed to be? Because the "radio alliance" mandated it. OK. Didn't anyone around there have the guts to say, wait a minute...it's NOT time to slam listeners with these promos until it's working, and working right?

As for what is on the air...a full year after the promo barrage began...I have a friend with an HD radio, and all we can pick up in the Greenville area is the two WLFJ side channels, one for 93.7 and one for 98.9. And those are nothing but network feeds with not as much as a local weather forecast.

Nice job Clear Channel and Entercom. Make sure you hire a few more rookie salespeople to sell that crap.

Couple of things, first "Hey Craig" good to see you are still amoung the living. Second WTPT does not have any problem with it's STL and hasn't had one for a couple of years. Also you don't have to worry about any HD2-3 station hiring sales people because you are not allowed at the moment to put adds on them. The "extra" formats are classified as experimental under commission rules. I also agree with Craig that AM HD is incredible. As far as main channel sound, AM is the big winner.
