Entercom Indianapolis...

The one thing that seems evident is the large number of hires/fires. Regardless of your point of view this much damage to people should send a message up the food chain.

Agreed. If nothing else on here makes any difference (which it probably never will due to the differing opinions) it should be that. There are always staff changes with the implementation of a new GM. Making that big switch is a good opportunity to bring in some new blood and update things that may have gone stale or just aren't working. However, when you've gone through 3 sales manager, fire your PD after you've been there a year and get rid of most of the local talent (both on and off air) something's gotta give. At that point it's not just making improvements, it may more likely be bad decision making.

We can always blame a bad economy for job cuts or low sales figures, but a big part of it also has to do what is going on internally. I've seen the Entercom cluster go from if not thriving, at least steady and maintained to a crazed rollercoaster with very minor ups and severe lows. Seeing top sales people and staff leave or pushed out due to lack of leadership isn't something that's going to bring those numbers (or confidence) back any time soon. If anything, it's simply going to make more good, talented people go out and find a place with a more successful (and supportive) group.

Here is a test for Entercom Corporate, come in and tell all the sales staff and on-air that you will not hold them to their non compete but you are keeping Jenny and Old Yeller, within one month you will have a MASS exodus. Same test and say you are changing management...NO exodus plus a renewed interest will occur within the city with Entercom. Its a shame the only reason most are there, if Jenny stays, is due to the dreaded non compete....

Sadly radioizdead is right. Just since the beginning of this thread, I've heard there have been rumblings and almost a new sense of hope that maybe something will be seen and changed. I think that if the non-compete wasn't an issue and jobs were more readily available virtually everyone would be gone. Sadly, so many of the employees really enjoy the company overall, but have been left with such a bad experience at Entercom due to a couple of lackluster leaders.

This thread will also appeal to two other types of folk, those who are looking for a gig may be waiting, and salivating, for some opportunities and then the rest who wouldn't touch this perceived debacle with a 10 foot pole....

I'm thinking most people that have worked in the industry or have had similar experiences with the main two culprits in question, will be choosing the latter option.

Most new talent hasn't got a shot of getting hired, at not anywhere other than sales. If they do, they have to deal with the rath as poor, unsuspecting newbies too afraid to standup for what they feel is right.

Most established talent either a) know better than to join in on a sinking ship or b) more than likely won't be utilized to the right degree, will become frustrated and will take their talents elsewhere.

Agreed. 100%

Question i know when Entercom dropped Traffic reports on WZPL back in the middle of 2010. someone said they were retaining the Metro reports for WXNT. but is that still the truth. i just checked at 2pm and they usually were still doing reports during the top of the hour news breaks. do they still do it at all

Has anyone been streaming any of the Entercom stations lately? I'm not sure who takes care of them, but they are sounding pretty horrible. Just this morning during Smiley within an hour I heard the same segment two times and several "mentions" of how it was Thursday. Commercials were also cut in during the middle of segments. The same thing has happened on WXNT. I've heard the same replays of Abdul back to back, double plays of spots and news/weather from days or even a week before.

I guess this is what happens when so much of the on-air content becomes syndicated and so few people work in the land of production. However, I'm now see why they have so few streaming sponsors.

Entercom Indianapolis 2010-2011 gives a whole new meaning to the term "Cluster F&ck" or should that be "Cluster F&ckED"

Interesting thought from another thread....

Do you think Entercom will end up cutting their losses in Indianapolis? Is it possible they are letting the cluster be run in the ground since it's not really making them anywhere near what was paid for it?

Thoughts? Opinions? Rumors?

Like ole Rush says...follow the money! That being said, I doubt that any company would drive it's cluster into the ground on purpose. What would the gain be for doing this. It is possible they want to sell it but to destroy it first doesn't make much sense.

I would imagine the same, but I'm grasping at straws on what the explanation for all of this is about at this point. Why just let 3 stations in a decent market continue to tank?

This thread has been quite the compelling read  . The comment about a part-timer not having the chance to get to know JS as a manager is not entirely true if her work habits are the same as they were in her Susquehanna days. She was at the station nearly every Saturday morning and was kind and encouraging to everyone.

My heart goes out to the talented employees who were displaced. The past few years have been challenging for many who love this business. Keep the faith that better opportunities lie ahead.

Thank you, yes, Jenny is in here most Saturdays and that is not how I have gotten to know her actually. She has taken time to sit down with me and hear how I feel about the station and ideas that I have had. I have even see suggestions I have made as a "part-timer" taken seriously and implemented. I know she would take time to see me any time I needed or wanted to see her. I like her, she has been nothing but nice and respectful to me. I appreciate the changes she has made, I really like her new hire of my PD and he also makes time for me and is always available. I have done this a long time and I have seen poor management. This is not it. Since I actually work here and I am being open about who I am that makes me credible. It is hard to see people leave but at the end of the day, we know that is how radio is at ANY company in ANY market. You are going to need to get thicker skin and man up if you want to make it in radio for the long haul. Bashing people will never benefit you , ever! (I am not speaking to this author directly except the part about knowing Jenny!)

You had more conversation with her than I had in my 5 months there...and I was in a KEY position. Perhaps she is more comfortable with part timers....

I think it's more that she's uncomfortable around anyone that questions her or gets in the position to make significant changes and men of any authoritative attitude. Look at who she's gotten rid of in her reign....I can think of at least 5 men.

Not sure if anything being said is true, but if so maybe she had a problem with a "manly-man" former p.d.

I can totally see that....but what about all of the others?

Also, thought this was appropriate...from an email I received today called questions for a good leader

1) What do you do with people who disagree with you... do you call them names in order to shut them down?

2) Are you open to multiple points of view or you demand compliance and uniformity? [Bonus: Are you willing to walk away from a project or customer or employee who has values that don't match yours?]

3) If someone else can get us there faster, are you willing to let them?

I thought those three were definitely some that Entercom should be asking about their management on Meridian Street.
