So you're saying Amp is much like Funkytown was..or did Funkytown get into some older stuff too?
As said before, 97.7 was bought so they could put the profitable WAAF on closer to Boston.
>>or will CBS put one of their FM stations to WBZ 1030am?
A couple people predicted Amp might only last a yr or two, to be replaced by WBZ NewsRadio, or
maybe they could put WBZ (AM) on 104.1. As for Entercom putting talk on FM, they don't have a place for it. If somehow they can get another freq--for example, if THEY had bought WFNX, maybe
but they certainly aren't going to displace WEEI from 93.7, or WAAF's simulcast from 97.7. I doubt they'd put it on 107.3 also but who knows. It'd help to the west.
During the day, for now, WRKO isn't too bad--they have Feinburg, Fin. Exchange, McPhee, and Howie. At times of yr when the sun goes down earlier, people can turn to WCRN for the rest of
Howie's show. From 7 pm on they have Savage, Doyle, and Red Eye. Yes they have trouble
to the west after dark but these shows aren't as important to them, and they do OK to the
north and south. (In some areas you can pick up those shows on other stations anyway.)
What other freq could WRKO buy to put WRKO on? And what if Howie can jump...
(maybe he'll be forced to stay another 2 yrs and then can leave?)
(And one good example of Ent missing its chance was the poss. of putting WEEI on 93.7 back in 09, as soon as CBS announced the Sports Hub would be coming. They could have put it on even before the 98.5 switch and scooped them. I'm sure Ent. was aware that 98.5 would be their biggest challenger yet--CBS' money and talent, and the Pats and B's. But Mike was making money for them so they hesitated. By last yr it got so bad they HAD to sacrifice the Mike "money stream" to save WEEI. Plus they spent a lot of $$$$$ on the Sox contract and want to get it on FM (_AND_ AM, they get credit for the 850 too)
