Entercom seeks radio naming rights for Sox network

http://www.boston.com/business/articles/2006/06/28/sox_radio_network_name_will_be_sold/

"The owner of radio stations WEEI and WRKO, fresh from signing one of Major League Baseball's most expensive radio rights deals, has found a way to get some money back: selling naming rights to the Red Sox radio network. ``We'll be right back on the WEEI/WRKO (Your Company Name) Red Sox Radio Network," proclaims promotional material for the deal. Entercom Communications Corp., parent of the two stations, plans to mail out requests for proposals to 25 top advertisers this week to gauge their interest in the five-year agreement.

Got several million dollars a year to pour into that, anyone? Also they're looking to expand the radio network outside of New England (Arizona? Florida?) From 66 stations to about 100.

At least one team already sells naming rights to its broadcast booth. I've got XM and have noticed Jerry Coleman on Padres games repeatedly referring to the "(Corporate name) broadcast booth at Petco Park." I suppose Entercom has heard of this, too, and will be putting those rights on the market at some time.

It's kind of refreshing to listen to some of the smaller-market feeds on XM and hear baseball broadcasters spend nearly 100 percent of their airtime describing baseball rather than ignoring the game to make sure a sponsor gets a nice long mention.
