Entercom: This is why people switch to XM and Sirius

I don't get it. KB had a format unique not only to Western NY but anywhere on the east coast. How many times would you see someone 400 miles away (in Mass) with a preset for a Buffalo NY AM station.

Air America? Where do they pull down ratings?

I subscribe to XM and have it in my car. I listen to very little AM/FM. I did listen to KB nightly and enjoyed it.

Not a surprise. Entercom has several stations in Mass. They have a very sucessful sports talk station ( WEEI) mainly due to the Red Sox and Pats.
WRKO, WAAF and Mike FM are jokes. Entercom recently moved the tower location of WAAF to be closer to Boston- Result--better signal? Try NO signal-Nice move!

Stations change formats all the time, but this one hit me and others right between the eyes. Well, it's back to oldies on XM radio!

I could never understand why people listen to music on AM. Even though I really loved the 70's music on WHLD, I never got that real effect of the music, because it was in mono, and AM is a really flat sound.

All that classic music is much better served on FM. There is a huge difference when I am driving around Niagara Falls when I put on WHTT as opposed to WHLD, WKBW, 1050 CHUM, CKOC, and WJJL.

Music on AM can still sound good if you have the right receiver and if the station that broadcasts the music has not lowered their high end to 5k. NRSC compliance standards have effectively neutered the AM band and allow more stations to be crammed into the dial at the expense of sound quality.

I owned a Carver TX 11a Tuner for many years and it blew me away when I would tune into a stereo AM signal. It sounded far better than ANYTHING on the FM dial, which has a tendency to be overprocessed and over modulated.

Unfortunately, the AM broadcast band, like our educational system, is being dumbed down to the point where it is all but useless.

Agreed on all points, but let us not forget that you also need an engineer at the radio station who knows some stuff about processing. You can run flat audio into the transmitter, and you'll get flat audio. But if you know how to get the ballsy-est sound you can get without going over the guidelines, THEN your station sounds unique.

I'm near Saratoga, NY, and my KB Preset in the car dissapeared today.

Let me explain: First it's getting hard to find a station that plays late '50's and early '60's oldies anymore. Second FM doesn't sound better than AM when you have to sit through 10 minute commercial stopsets.
