Entercom to Buy KUFX/ San Jose from Aloha Trust

Entercom has hired Larry to head up Entercom's new rock venture in The Bay
Area. That would include SF and SJ - KOIT and KDFC ain't going anywhere, can
you say tick tock KBWF.
 
Others in other fora have suggested that KDFC wil be swapped onto 95.7 and KUFX will be simul'd on 102.1 - a better match for 98.5, being further north.
 
Radio Buddha is VERY close to the truth .. which will be out in several hours, around 4 pm today. The news impacts at least 3 well-known stations, including KUSF, which has been off the air since 10 a.m.

I still predict that KBWF will flip to a CHR/Rhythmic format.
 
I hope either KUFX evolves into a different flavor of rock, or either The Band or The Bone flip.

I cannot think of any Top 50 market that is able to support not 1, not 2, but 3 (!!!!) classic rock stations on full-market signals.

So -- who is least likely to persevere? Bone, Band, or K-Fox?

I would have to believe The Wolf is on death watch, too. I don't see how an adequate profit can possibly be made with ratings as poor as theirs.

An all-sports format on FM might be interesting. I also cannot help but wonder if a Gen-X format would fly locally. Personally, I think that format will be a flash-in-the-pan. In the markets where it's been around a little while, the ratings are already starting to retreat.

I remember in 1982-83, San Francisco had 4 AOR stations (KRQR-97.3, KQAK-98.9, KFOG-104.5 & KMEL-106.1) as well as the two San Jose AOR stations, KSJO-92.3 & KOME-98.5. So it is not impossible to have that many Classic Rock stations. Personally I think The Band will be the eventual loser, in my opinion. The Bone will survive, and with Larry Sharp's leadership, so will "K-Fox"!
 
Larry Sharp is a very smart person. That is why I think K-Fox will succeed under his leadership. Larry Sharp used to be the pd of KUFX-98.5 years ago as well as Sacramento's KSEG-96.9 The Eagle and KXOA-107.9 "ARROW 108". I really, really think that KKSF-103.7 The Band will be the casualty of the Classic Rock Wars! Of the three, The Band is very bland in its presentation. Isn't The Band 100% Voice Tracked Too?
 
Do we really need 3 rock stations in San Francisco Bay?

Also does 102.1 needs 98.5 simulcast? 102.1 can be hear ok in the South Bay, just look at the San Jose PPM. What a waste of signal.

Who Knows? This might be temporary? It may not. They may simulcast it for awhile then create something new for 98.5? I remember when Threshold Broadcasting bought KLOC-920 back in 2001, 920 simulcasted KVIN-1390 for one year before flip flopping formats & call letters.
 
My question is, Will Entercom move the KUFX calls to 102.1 and create new calls for 98.5? I remember when CBS moved the KBAY calls to 93.3 and created KBAA for 94.5, while simulcasting the AC format. Then CBS moved the KBAY calls back to 94.5 when they sold 93.3.
 
Wow, now we have 4 stations that will play "Sweet Home Alabama" 17 times a week! (5 if you count True Oldies Channel)

The folks at Cheap Channel must be pissed as hell right now. They could've simulcast K-FOX on 103.5 when they owned both stations (I said as much on this board when The Band began), but instead went thru all the trouble of creating a new brand, even tho' they had a known quantity in KUFX.

It will be interesting to see how Greg Kihn fares in this move. He got into a bit of a kerfuffle a few years ago when he said he was against gay marriage, and when the idea of a K-FOX SF simulcast was first mentioned I said they could probably use Kihn's "political incorrectness" to their advantage, since he'd be a marked (and marketable) alternative to KFOG's laid-back, generally left-leaning morning crew. Time will tell.

I remember KBAY and KBAA. You, me, and 7 other radio nerds noticed. KUFX will probably stay in San Jose, and 102.1 will become K_FX. It's not like K-F-O-X is available. I remember that KFOX was a Long Beach AM country station when I was a kid - I haven't checked where it resides now, but if it were available, Rupert Mudroch probably would have grabbed it for KTTV long ago.

I guess Greg Kihn is the Ted Nugent of disc jockeys. I doubt anybody cares much. Remember that this is where Michael Savage first got popular, and KSFO gets decent ratings.
