Entercom to Kill The Buzz soon?

One of Entercom's Gen X stations in Kansas City flipped to AC today, anyone think they could kill The Buzz soon? Maybe they could put ESPN 1320 on FM at 106.5?

While I do think Entercom will eventually flip 106.5, I don't think it will be in the near future. KCTC will likely stay on 1320...no room on FM for sports talk in Sacto.

If I were Entercom, I would consider putting a gold-skewing AC on 106.5. Something like KOIT in SF. KYMX plays alot of the same stuff you can hear on KGBY & KZZO...I'm thinking about an at-work/dentist office station with no Lady GaGa or Black Eyed Peas. Especially now that KSSJ is gone.

So they blew up KWOD for a mess of an ill-advised niche format that clearly had no shelf-life (did no one learn from the countless dozens of flame-outs of 70's hits and 80's hits stations?), and then dumped KSSJ for a maddenly boring attempt to regain some of KWOD's audience (it may be a jukebox with minimal ratings but look at all the Facebook fans we have!!!!!!). How much better off that cluster would've been both revenue- and ratings-wise had they not gotten an itchy trigger-finger and stayed the course with KWOD? Turning two moderately successful and viable stations with personality into a pair of non-performing place-holders is par for the course with CC and Cumulus... but for some reason I expected better from Entercom.

I think they killed KWOD because it was starting to take shares away from 98Rock. Could Sacto use an AAA station? Could Entercom program one?

Book figures would dispute your belief that KKDO has minimal figures. While KKDO appears to have dropped in the most recent book, it is still doing pretty well. They are well ahead of where KWOD was in their last few books.

I quite enjoy the minimal approach chosen by Entercom. As for Gen X/Buzz, most of those may well evolve into Hot AC, eventually.

Sacramento doesn't need another Hot AC. Entercom just flipped another failing FM to FM Talk. With The Buzz at a 1.3, I could see them making 106.5 a simulcast of ESPN 1320, It would certainly improve 106.5's 25-54 numbers
