ENTERCOM TROUBLES

in today's r and r.com site- fcc may halt the transfer of 16 stations from cbs to entercom. one petition to deny the transfer ( royce international ) and another about the tragedy of a water contest kndnd had on jan 12th. might effect stations transfers in texas, tennessee, ohio, kentucky and new york.

I wouldn't expect a halt of the deals to happen. A delay is quite likely, but little else usually comes from these petitions. By the way, the R & R site doesn't say that the FCC may halt the transfer of the stations from CBS to Entercom; it says that Royce International's attorneys have filed a petition requesting a halt of the license transfers. Royce files to block just about every Entercom transaction. Royce is unhappy that it lost KWOD in Sacramento to Entercom after a lengthy court fight. Entercom said it had a contract to buy KWOD. Royce said it didn't. The courts sided with Entercom.

Not so sure anymore after the listener death. All bets are off now.

I still expect nothing other than a delay and possible fines unless someone proves Entercom's senior management was directly involved. I seem to remember a station in Beaumont getting into trouble for someone getting killed after a bar remote sponsored by the station, but it resulted in little damage to the station licensee.
