Entercom welcomes another plagiarist: Ron Borges

Another sports media whore enters the building! "Gee, maybe if I slide on over to RADIO no one will know what a disgrace I was at the NEWSPAPER! It's like starting all over again! Woo-hoo!"

I have never witnessed such a parade of sports media hacks bouncing from one medium to another, as though victims of the Titanic trying every life preserver they can while flailing about in the water.

Soon, they will be dead.

Anthony it was only this past March

Globe suspends sportswriter for plagiarism

By Jimmy Severino, Globe Staff

The Boston Globe today suspended without pay indefinitely, Howie Barnicle, after allegations that he had plagiarized a portion of a radio column from another sportswriter.

The Globe’s editor, Martin Baron, said Howie Smith had included in his ‘Boston Radio Board’’ column last Sunday material written by a reporter for the National Enquirer.

"‘The Globe does not tolerate plagiarism (ANYMORE)"’ Baron said in a statement. "Howie Carr's Extensive passages from the Brothers Bulger, written by the Enquirer Reporter, were used verbatim in the column by Ron Carr, and that is prohibited by Cardinal Bernard Law and the editors at the Metro."

Howie Borges will also be barred from broadcast appearances over the next two months, Baron said.

The plagiarism was exposed here: website, http://coldhardfootballfacts.com.

this is a parody of a Globe article. Send all lawsuits to the firm of Shack, Wolfe, Kahn & Goudie, LLC

I thought the Borges call was a close one. He didn't try to hide the fact that he was using essentially wire copy in his reporting, and he didn't make things up. If Mary Mapes is still considered a journalist, Borges should be gainfully employed. The fact that he quit indicates that he doesn't think he did anything wrong.

The story that amazes me is Barnicle. He repeatedly invented people, quotes, etc. It wasn't close. He lied. He deceived. He committed the worst thing a reporter can do.

Why does Barnicle still have influence? Why do people still hold him in regard? Why is he still on WTKK? Why all the rumors that WRKO would hire him? Why does NBC still use him?

It's a mystery to me. He is as disgraced as a journalist can get. Doesn't he know that? Doesn't anyone else in Boston?

you raise good points...

C'mon, you don't know why Barnicle endures? It should be obvious. His social status is much higher than, say, a Ron Borges. For one thing, his wife is an influential executive at Bank of America. That and the fact that he has a long list of high profile friends (everyone who came on his show was a "great guy") kept his career afloat after he left the Globe in disgrace. Say what you want about Howie Carr but he has worked hard to get where he is.

This is good to know. I've always theorized that Barnicle was a know-nothing/do-nothing with a career that seemed to defy all theories of science.

Now I know it's true.

I remember now. I didn't recall the name at first ... not really following sports these days.

Tony--he got busted for not properly attributing sources in his football notes column, got suspended for two months and then quit.

Come on, plagarism is copying another persons work, which Borges did WORD FOR WORD. That whole argument that he cites the wire sources is garbage when you basically steal another person's work verbatim.

No chance that Borges simply wanted out? To me, it seems that his deed seems too obvious. Especially since it is so easy to check for plagiarism with the Internet at your disposal.

Ahhhh...the wonderful Internet. That would be the same 'Internet' that the Boston Globe and all who work there despises for ruining their business, angering Dan Shaughnessy (he the hater of Schilling's blog, '38 Pitches'), and the cause for Borges to be trolling for beer money doing radio 'guest' stints.

Oh, Algore, why oh WHY did you have to come along and invent the Internet and RUIN the businesses of all your friends in the liberal print media? Me? I have one word that summarizes things nicely: bwahahahahahahaha!
