Entercom

Seems like there is very little news/discussion about Entercom compared to the other broadcast corp's, so I was curious since they have a lot of stations in my market. Does anyone know how they are doing in comparison to the major broadcast companies? Seems like they did pretty well throughout the economic downturn compared to the others. Any thoughts on the company's business/programming practices? They haven't really expanded since 2006....which has probably been to their benefit. I see where they tried to buy some CBS stations last year and attempted at ABC.

I think they have a decent amount of rock/alternative/modern AC type stations, especially in the west and midwest. Not extremely impressed with a lot of the stations they have but that may be because I don't care for the formats a lot of them have. They also seem to have community involvement and localization (at least around here), which a lot of stations don't put much effort towards these days, so they deserve credit on that.

In the Buffalo/Niagara Falls market, they have the reputation of being "the best of a bad lot". It ain't that hard to be a better place to work than Citadel or Townsquare. Entercom - at least here - has retained more local talent, and been a more stable operation than the other two big players. Their stock has also been a much better play than most, and they were smart enough to avoid both untenable debt and bankruptcy. That's a lot to be said these days.

Same here....I can only think of one, maybe two on-air talents they have "released" in the past couple of years. However, in the Greenville market they had management issues for a long time....and a series of bad decisions. Looks like that's no longer the case now, but they were second-best for a while here to CC. I still think the cluster has a tarnished reputation. Overall though they just seem to put more effort in to their stations than many of the other operators.

Like I said, they have some stations with formats a lot of other companies wouldn't operate, or at least as well, especially adult/rock type stations and they don't seem to be so quick to change formats. A lot of people in nearby markets seem to like the active rock station they have here.
