Entercom's "Hot Mess"

If D&C go somewhere else, Bob Nuemeir and Steve DeOssie for AM Drive. For those worried about Mustard and Johnson, I dont think Craig Mustard is going to give up his day job at wellseley HS. But Lary might do AM drive.

DeOssie? Good god no... That would be almost as painful as when Smerlas and DeOssie anchored the Big Show. Almost as painful as Mustard and Johnson and it would mean being subjected daily to their idiotic repeat callers/performers and Larry's nasally voice and constant pontification. I don't mind Neumy. Holley is better with Dale, though. That slot is wide open if D&C leave.

"Are you refering to the time Lobel signed the largest sports anchor contract in Boston history at a mediocre 600K?"

Well, so much for the Einsteins in TV and radio management.

At the time, WBZ was locked into a slugging match with WCVB, and everyone was paying big bucks for proven talent. That the station is now in the dumper is immaterial to the situation that existed at that time. With the erosion of the broadcast television news audience over the last decade, we have probably seen the end to megabuck contracts for local news talent, but that wasn't the case when Lobel signed for his 600K.

They pay big bucks to someone like Lobel (and we know where he spent it)

Alimony? Booze? It really doesn't matter, does it? These are your hangups, not those of folks who have to play the game for real and not just talk about it. Lobel was being paid to report, entertainingly, on sports, not act in a public relations capacity for WCTU. Lobel was one of the hottest properties in town at the time, and both of the competing Vs would have been more than happy to make room for him.

and hatched a whole generation of people that believe their press clippings and inflated sense of self worth. That is the MO, right TSB?

Ummm...you've discovered that media personalities have egos, and act like you've just translated the Rosetta Stone. You're about 80 years late to the party.

It comes through in your holier-than-thou posture, which is quite humorous to read.

Actually, it only seems holier-than-thou because I try to get my facts right, and have reality-based opinions, which seem to be alien concepts to you. I guess you think that just saying 'everyone sucks' , no matter how successful they are, or how well they perform in the ratings, makes you appear sophisticated. You are wrong in thinking this, as you are wrong on just about everything you post, from radio wave propagation to talent to the business side of the industry.

Let me bow one more time to your WBZ pedigree.

The fact that I know more about this stuff than you isn't my fault, it is your fault. Obtuseness isn't a virtue, but it will help you keep your amateur standing.

TSB

Almost as painful as Mustard and Johnson

Nothing is as painful as Mustard and Johnson. I used to keep them on as background noise in my garage workshop, and found myself switching on my tablesaw just to drown them out. Thank God for the Irish Hit Parade.

IIRC, one of the moves which started WEEI on their climb up the ratings was blowing out Mustard from his weekday slot.

I don't mind Neumy.

Me neither. I think asking for too much money for the midday slot was what did him in the first time around. With the right foil, he could work in AMD if D&C take a hike, and money would be less of an object.

Holley is better with Dale, though.

Yes. That show is turning out better than I ever thought it would.

the thing with Neumy is he doesn't sound angry, he doesn't convey a hateful attitude.

The way I hope the D&C matter turns out is that D&C leave (and I'm a republican) and are replaced by some A-list talent who will concentrate more on sports and less on current events. How did a former pretty boy, TV guy and a hack sportswriter become political pundits anyway? Callahan is either putting on an act or he's unbelievably uninformed and just a first class jerk.

The cherry on top would be if their departure removed the Metco Gorilla stigma and allowed WEEI to rid themselves of Larry Johnson. I'm convinced that the only reason he's on at all is that they're afraid he'll scream racism if they get rid of him. Talk about no talent. I've also seen some pretty compelling evidence that he steals his so-called artwork. This guy has nothing.

This probably won't happen, but as Dusty Springfield put it, I'm wishin' and hopin'.
