Good grief. Yeah it looks like it is trying to shore up the cluster before selling, in the meantime another spanish station looms. I

Damn, that's a hell of a big stick!
Where is it, or where they gonna' put it?
If it's currently up, must be out in Midland,
cause their city grade sig across DFW stinks.
Sorta' like another little station out west
that's trying to play with the big dogs. It
ain't workin'.

2034 is no taller than the rest of the northern rimshots (its the SAME tower as 96.7 IIRC)....and 40KW is less than half what the others are running at 100KW..are they even on the air? I know the CP was issued but I think they are still dark

Re: From All Access

Entravision Buys Dallas Move-In
Amidst rumors that the company plans to sell its DALLAS cluster, ENTRAVISION is buying presently-silent KBOC/BRIDGEPORT, TX from NORTH TEXAS RADIO GROUP for $16.6 million, of which $3,876,868.40 has been advanced to the sellers and against which a total of $910,000. in credits are being applied for not buying four stations originally included and for reduced expenses.

The deal is a successor to a 1999 contract held by ENTRAVISION predecessor Z-SPANISH MEDIA to buy an upgraded KBOC. KBOC went silent in NOVEMBER and had programmed Country before that; the new facility will broadcast from a tower northwest of DENTON. An application for a new CP for the CLass C operation was filed in JANUARY.

Have any idea what kind format will be on here? I would love to see them put a rock format on here like KFRQ in McAllen. Any thoughts??

Probably yet another Mexican format of some sorts would be most likely for Entravision to put on KBOC. If they do anything other than Mexican, I'd be supprised.

In what way is KTCY (pop) or KZZA (hip hop and reggaetón) "Mexican?" The listeners may be predominantly Mexican, granted. But "Mexican" is an ethnicity or nationality, not a format.

Re: What is a "Mexican" format.

How about "Spanish" or "Tejano" format rather than Mexican.
Edited by EggsOverEasy87 on 02/14/06 07:49 PM.

Spanish is a language. Tejano is one kind of format.

In Spanish, you can have as many formats (or more, given all the different regional music in Latin America) as in English, from classic rock to AC to the equivalents of country and talk and sports and so on.

Tejano is a format with tejano music... one kind of Spanish langauge music which appeals to many Tejanos, or secnd generation and on Hispanics born in Texas.

Dallas currently has Tejano only on a rimshot AM. There are only about 6 of these left in the whole country, today.

David.. I have heard many people refer to a format as "Regional Mexican".. What does this emcompass?

This is a term that the music industry uses that is unknown among listeners. The meaning is the same as "country" in English... except that in the US, the term "country" is familiar to listeners.

The record industry uses this term to cover norteña (accordeon style), ranchera (mariachi), banda (tuba brass band) and grupera (electronic keyboards) that are all the blue collar music of Mexico... like country!
